Has anyone attempted to boot old ms-dos and run some video chipset id utility?

I'm curious if perhaps it would be possible to get 800x600x24bit mode from a dos application (or 32-bit dos thru a dos extender) on the GCTP ... thru some sort of VESA interface to the SMI video chipset.

Any comments?
