Where is the VGA out on the GCT?

BigDog, I know you metioned in another thread that there was a 10-pin VGA out header located near the IDE connector. Is this CN5? I was wondering if that was it or was it CN3 as mentioned in an earlier thread? Im trying to see if there is a way to connect a VGA monitor to this thing but Im not even sure about the connection. Did you finally get a VGA monitor connected?

CN3 is the VGA out, below the video controller and CPU, CN5 is the TTL com2 port.

I used the same cable pinouts as the i-Opener VGA cable (they are the same) below is the pin outs according to Wild_Pencil which worked fine for me:

CN3......VGA......Signal
1.........1.......RED
3.........2.......GREEN
5.........3.......BLUE
x.........4.......reserved
8,10......5.......GROUND
8,10......6.......RED GROUND
8,10......7.......GREEN GROUND
8,10......8.......BLUE GROUND
6.........9.......+5 VDC
8,10.....10.......SIGNAL GROUND
x........11.......montior ID Bit 0
2........12.......DDC Serial Data Line
7........13.......Horizontal Sync
9........14.......Vertical Sync
4........15.......DDC Data Clock Line

Thanks bigdog.... On a side (unrelated to the GCT) note...On an I-opener, Would you happen to know which side of the Video out (LCD) connector is pin 1? The one closer to L1? or to the heatsink mounting bracket? Sorry in advance if this is posted elsewhere...

I believe the side near the heatsink, I wouldn't swear to it as I don't have an IO handy. I believe that there is a white block marked on the PCB which represents pin one.

Thank you kindly! I think you are correct since I hadnt noticed that there is a tiny triangle pointing out pin 1 near the heatsink mount. Appreciate it!

As I was working on vga out cn3 I had a short and had crossed pin 6 and 8, resulting in a small spark. I'm no longer able to get any power past the power adapter jack. I think this is the death of my GCT, but just wanted to ask the question if anyone has recovered from such a dumbass mistake, and if there was any hope at all for my gct?

Thanks,
-Drun

Don't sound good...

Let me do a little tracing on an old mainboard I have, I would expect there might be a fused link around the power connecter side. This is always an problem when dealing with the ports as most are not indivdualy fused at the port, I killed two GCTs by accidental shorts (one working with an IDE header and another with COM2). I looked one over and did find a labeled line "F" but I can't see just by looking quickly were it goes as this might be a fuse link. (this is

I take it your GCT doesn't do anything?

Correct, it does nothing. I've tested the power in from the power jack and that is the only area I can get a reading for volts. There is no power going to the switch, no power anywhere but at the base of the power jack and a very few componets (like Q28 between the "F" mark and the power jack).

Thanks,

I can't find a fuse link, I would guess at this point that it's a blown IC.

I believe Quanta made the board as well as the i-Opener board, I am not aware of any place to replace the board unless you can get Gateway to replace it at a cost??

Might try to post a message to try finding someone with a bad or cracked screen who would sell one or try to track down All-As-Is who was selling them on ebay. You could just buy another an part your old one out, right now on eBay, Adeal is selling two and the last one I bought from him had etherenet despite the description stating HPNA, ALSO the adeal ones come complete with power adapter.
