HPNA Trade and CF boot question

First of all, I am looking to swap my HPNA card for a ethernet. Let me know if you want to trade.

Also, I wanted to know if anyone has tried to put a boot manager on the CF that would allow you to boot from a USB hard drive or cd rom. Sounds easy enough, but has anyone else figured out how?

To boot from the an IDE cdrom is possible without a boot manager, don't know about using a Boot manager but it should work except for the USB booting since that would require higher level drivers to enable the USB first.

Some newer versions of Phoenix bios allow USB booting but not on the GCT.

I know the bios should have it, but we CANT get in! Thats why I want to put a boot manager on the CF. I'm puting this in my car and want a usb cable leading to the trunk and ending at a hub. This would allow me to have GPS, HD and other goodies back there.... I wouldnt have to keep cracking it open to put another hard drive or mess with the os if I can just get it to boot from the CF.

BTW: I know its going to be a lot slower!

Any help in this direction would be appreciated...

What I meant about the bios is that it's set to boot from a IDE cdrom first then hard drive or CF next, even on the ones that you can't get into the bios setup.

Sounds like what you need is an IDE to CF adapter to install and a normal PC to setup the boot manager on the CF card, these can be found for about $25, do a search here or on Google.com and you should be able to find a couple links for sites that sell them.

I have one that I use to format my CF cards on, in a regular desktop PC the CF is recognized as a normal IDE hard drive and don't require any driver support to loaded unlike the USB CF readers. Then once the BM is installed and setup, just take the CF to the GCT and test.
