Thoughts on the Touch Pad?

Hi,

Just tossing this out since the forum seems sort of dead. I'm actually a bit surprised that there seems to be so little going on w/ this. It would seem that w/ the built in ethernet/usb/cf and being based on mobile linux already would make it much easier to deal with then say working w/ an Audrey and mucking around w/ QNX. Am I missing something, is there something horribly wrong with the Touch Pad?

Is it an availability thing (I'm kicking myself for missing the clearance sales earlier this year, so I guess I'll be biding my time on ebay unless someone else knows of a good source to get one).

I'm thinking that the GCTP would make a great networked MP3 player / xterm to hook up in the living room.

Two things I also wanted to ask:

1) Is there anywhere else besides ebay to get one of these puppies (preferably a regular ethernet one)?

and

2) Are there any other forums or sites dedicated to GCTP hacking?

A few people have done work with this and Linux. I just haven't had the time lately to get everything completed. Short term mine is going to sit on my kitchen counter or in the living room and be used as a stand alone web browser. In the future, I would like to use it as an xterm OR as an xterm controlling an MP3 player in my car, possibly with a GPS, but since there isn't alot of work going on with GPS in linux space, that will be farther down the line.

I'm sure that the few people who were actually trying to get Linux going on this thing are either happy with what they have currently or are too busy to post anything on here. I'd really like to know if Wireless is still around. he was heading up alot of the work.

I'm not aware of another forum, but if you find one, please post it on here and let me know.

Thanks,

Ricko

Fwiffo:

e-mail me at dan@burke.homeip.net. I have an ethernet version w/ header already onboard that I'd be willing to let go. It works fine- I just don't have the time to tinker with it.

you know codeman, the funny thing is that on ebay (right now there are 3 as-is hpnas (no p/s) and 1 tested hpna w/ cosmetic defects), the touch pads don't seem to be very popular. none of them have any bids. for some reason no one seems to want one, which i can't really understand. a lot of ipaq ia's going for good prices (i snagged an ia-1 for $100 and change), and CRAZY prices on audrey's. just plain ridiculous. not sure way exactly.

personally, i'm interested in a touch pad still because, well, the touchpad is just plain nifty. for for living room/car uses it just seems that it'd be way more useful, but to each his own i guess.

Codeman, I would be interested in one or two, either network type or for that matter or with no network card if that would make the price cheaper as I want to put 802.11b wireless cards in them.

Would $100 with no network card be unreasonable?
