XP Embedded

I've recently created an XP Embedded image for the GCT, but I ran into a fiew driver errors. I need to know some specs on the hardware:
USB chipset
Video (It will detect, I just was unable to get the drivers on it)
Sound chipset
Power Management (if any)
HNA Adapter
Modem

I was able to get it on a hard drive, and it ran great. The only real dumb thing that I forgot to do was create a swapfile in the build.
Any assistance would be great!

Thanks,
BB

Hey,

This is awesome! How small is the build?

I managed to get the build to be 254mb. It has features like networking, usb support, Media Player, and other items that seem to be cool for the GCT. My issues right now are power management, or lack there of... :)

Thanks to Yellow2 for the video driver help. I will complete this, and then upload my installation log somewhere for people to download. They can get the XP Embedded software (120 day trial) for $6, and you can spit out as many builds of XP as you want.

Just trying to wake up the GCT community!

I got the same eval kit too, I just haven't had time to try it out, size requirement for it was 254mb ?? WOW, I thought it would take up less than that!

FYI - These might work for the CE 10/100 network drivers:

CE 3.0 - ftp://152.104.125.40/lancard/drivers/8139/rtsce-8139(305).zip

and while I was there I got the links for XP drivers too:
ftp://152.104.125.40/lancard/drivers/8139c+/xp-8139cp(501).zip

Not sure if this links works, but here are the listing for all the drivers:

I used one of their templates, added the swapfile, and attempted to put the proper drivers. Fortunately, it saw my HD, because I have yet to get into the bios.
I can get a command shell version of XP Embedded to install on 20MB, but what good is that, eh? :)

Only some early units let you into the BIOS (see other threads)
The bad thing about XP is that it doesn't support compressed drives. Or does it ?

I'm not too sure if it supports compressed drives or not. I haven't seen anything that says it doesn't. It's not the direction I'm going though. :)

Can't see any downside to using Compressed Drives ! It does double the capacity of your CF !

XP Will let you compress a folder or drive (NTFS):

To compress an NTFS drive
You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure.
Open My Computer.
Right-click the drive you want to compress.
Click Properties.
On the General tab, select the Compress drive to save disk space check box, and then click OK.
In Confirm Attribute Changes, select the option you want.

I think it's very different from the Drivespace application whose beauty was to let you BOOT from a compressed partition.

Loaded XP Professional on my GCT and all looks good with the exception that the "latest" video driver causes the screen to blink while using the mouse and I have not been able to find any touchscreen drivers. The Win98 touchscreen drivers do not work.

Rolling back to the previous video driver solved the blinking problem.

Anybody know of any XP drivers for the touchscreen?

Ah yes... the blinking. That's a popular problem. :)

Did you end up putting in a HD for the OS, or are you using a CF?
Did you have to get into the bios?

No, I didn't load this on a CF although I did quite a bit of research on it. I had a 4gig HD that was perfect for this so I used that and wasn't really concerned about how much room the OS took. I would be interested in any thoughts on how to best optimize the performance. Seems like it runs pretty well or at least as well as Win98 and I can connect to the device via the built-in remote access which runs quite a bit better than I though it would.

I use the GCT as a dedicated MP3 player attached to my ethernet network for access to my music library and audio out attached to my stereo. I am looking for the touchscreen drivers for XP...anybody know of any?

BigDog or Yellow2,
Could you please give us a link to some touch screen drivers?

I'm working on a server strictly for GCT. We can post items when the server's ready.

Regards,
Robb
