Will it play DVD?

I know I'm getting ahead of myself..and I know barely anyone even has the unit..but do you think it will be able to play DVD..I read an article that said Gateway will eventually offer add-on usb devices like a cd/dvd rom. The processesor will probably make it jerky. Tell me what you all think.

Also, are there usb dvd decoder card...if there were a way to hook up a decoder, as long as the lcd can refresh well enough, dvd seems possible.

Of course, I'm a newbie to this stuff...but I'm full of ideas on how to incorporate this into my honda (mp3,gps, dvd, and more)

thanks in advance for your replies

To put it simply, DVD playback using the current GTC LCD would really suck in MHO.
I'm not sure if the Crusoe Cpu is capable of handling such a task?
There is already noted slow video using Win98. A little better with MS ME.
I'm not aware of any USB DVD decoder. PDNE

er...well judging by the cpu usage of mp3 playing, it's probably no with the base configuration.
Never heard about these usb dvd decoder cards. That would have to be usb2.0 no ? Do you jhave a link for GW's upgrade statements ?

mykolJay,
Back again...regarding may last post, I don't know if the Crusoe in the GTC will be able to handle any of those USB drives I posted links to...or any others?(Guessing I would say no).

Good point, I don't think the Crusoe 3200 at 400mhz in on a par with a PII300. Not from my experience at least.
I'll try decoding a 1mbps mpeg1 (I know DVD is mpeg2) tonight to see how it goes.

In the cnn article - http://www.linuxdevices.com/articles/AT3155528116.html

"Gateway intends to introduce USB support for additional external devices (scanners? CDROM/DVD drives? wireless interfaces? ...?) on an ongoing basis."

Of course, the question marks arent too reassuring, but maybe

O2U2, I don't think they're referring to the 400mhz SC3200 are they, but more to Crusoe processors in general.
Since the SC3200 is their entry model with no cache, I wouldn't hope for too much !
