Anyone have XP or W2k Installed?

If anyone has either XP or W2k (any versions) installed on their GCT, PLEASE email me (address in profile)!

I need someone to run the Windows XP Embedded TAP.EXE query programe for me (I'll email it to you - 45kb)

This is a stand-alone console(DOS) program (doesn't copy any files) that querys the hardware windows is using and generates a XML file. The whole process takes less than a minute. Just double click the file, and a few seconds later the output file will be written to the same directory.

I am really stuck, until I have this. Once I am done, I'll be glad to make the build script public for anyone to use.

Thanks!
Ed

I don't have Win2k installed currently, but plan to when I receive my replacement hard drive. I can help you out if no one else can before then.

I got XP installed this morning, no major problems except getting a cd-rom running with the hard drive and after everthing was installed I keep getting this annoying "soft modem" found that XP can't find a driver for and it appears to have something to do with the chipset as the Ali USB wouldn't work at first until I removed the soft modem.

Later after removing the special CSEL IDE cable I made the USB started working correctly (the IDE cd-rom I was using would only work as a cable select for slave, I jumped line 28 to ground for the slave cdrom and line 28 to +5volt for the hard drive as master after setting the hard drive jumper config to CSEL for master/slave)

Does anyone know if there is a Ali softmodem driver for the M1525-B1 controller? I am curious to see if there is actually a "third" modem on these things (1st modem was the regular 56k modem that has the 4 screws, the 2nd was the modem on the HPNA cards, and perhaps there is a 3rd built into the IO controller?)

My next step is to contact ICS and see if I can get a MK712 XP/2000 driver for the touchscreen controller... No promises yet, but I will see what I can do.

What size is that XP install BigDog ?
I'm trying to figure out whether there's any hope of fitting XP or Embedded XP on a CF. The noise of a spinning HD is not good for my bedroom !
Maybe it would be possible to use Win98's Drivespace program too, although on second thoughts probably not...Wonder if there's an equivalent for WinXP ?

XP Lets you compress folders on NTFS (RtClk on the folder/General/Advanced Button), but I think you'd still need a fairly large CF to load it on. (The C:\windows folder on my laptop is over a Gig with XP!)

I have played with XPe and had images down to 180MB, with the basics, although I haven't fully tested yet. Try to get back to it soon and post results.

Not sure on the size, I wiped it and installed WinME and then killed the keyboard I/O with my attempt to do the PS/2 port install so all I have now is a GCT that works great but no keyboard or mouse. I have another coming in next week and I plan to re-install XP with a wireless mini-pci card so I will let you know later....

Wow Xp is so fast as compared to chugging Windows ME. Just that there is little wireless support and no touchscreen drivers. Hopefully either someone writes the drivers or Ms releases the drivers. Are the touchscreen drivers generic or specific?
