Hi, I am looking to get a gateway connected touchpad, could someone please tell me of a place to buy one as I have been unable to find any places selling them, or if someone here is willing to sell one I would be interested. Thanks.

Ok, I found a couple on ebay, but they say 'GIA 1.1' for the model number, and do not say wether they have the HPNA or ethernet card in them. Is there a version which is just modem? Sorry for my lack of knoledge, I am new to GCT's.

Just about all of them on eBay are hpna, I have yet to see any ethernet models on there yet. All the GCT's have a modem regardless of network card type and the HPNA have two modems in that the HPNA is actually a HPNA 2.0 10mb adapter and modem, so with the modem that's already in them you get two modems.

Also somewhat OT, Windows ME and XP see's a 3rd com port and Windows XP tries to find a modem driver for a detected softmodem. I have a feeling that the third com port is a IR com port, as soon as I get my replacement GCT in and get it loaded; I will check that out with my palm pilot.

I have bought two from him for the $74 starting price. You will need to get a Power Adapter (Uses the same as the GW Solo laptops...also found on eBay)

Both of my main units have worked fine, one did have a bad keyboard though.

A friend of mine bought one also, his was fine as well.

Yup, I bought two from him as well. Both units worked (one unit was brand new!), but one keyboard did not work. And yes, you will need your own power supply (old gateway solo laptop PS did the trick).

Overall, I would say he is a good seller, as I accidently over-paid by $5. Well, a few days later he mailed me a check.

All-As-Is is pretty good, it appears that PayPal gave him some problems and it appears that he doesn't accept PayPal any longer; at least it's gone from his auctions and I emailed and asked about it and got no reply.

I bought several from him too, all were good. I never checked the keyboards as I use a Siltek 7100.

email me if you'd like to sell one of your unused KBs.

My unit from as-is came with Realtek ethernet. I was hoping it would but never specificaly requested it. Also everything works but performance is disappointing. I'm running Win98 from 340mb microdrive 128mb sodimm.
On the other hand IR responds to my Harmon/Kardon programmable remote control. I use it to look up local weather, tv listings and traffic and also as internet radio with one click. But WMP takes about l min to start.

Bummer on the ethernet !! :)

I have bought and seen about a dozen come through from all-al-is and none of them had ethernet!! I heard of a couple people buying several with hopes they would be ethernet but they were always HPNA; Congrats!

The only thing I have seen is a couple have come with IDE headers soldered in from the factory and a pin clipped, The ones I have always wished for was the early version that has the AOL/Gateway logo on boot up instead of just the green & white Gateay logo as these are the versions that will allow you to enter the bios setup.

I have one coming in from Adeal off eBay and I hope it's an eary version! FYI - Adeal on ebay has the GCT's too, but they are more expensive and come complete with power supplies, Adeal doesn't always have them on auction but if you email sales@adeal.com they might be able to fix you up too.

I really dont see what the hassle is with HPNA / Ethernet. I bought a pair of Daiamond HPNA cards and they work fine in my home network (now that Im using win2k). Alternatively, you can buy an HPNA to ethernet bridge and that will end all your troubles (though it will set you back around $100). Ive been using my GCT as a home MP3 player, though what I really want to do is (cough, cough) use it to "test" my DTV system. Thanks to the efforts of r_fl_z, and BigDog, I'll soon have a new use for my GCT.

"The ones I have always wished for was the early version that has the AOL/Gateway logo on boot up "

I've got one of these with the logo if you're interested. What's the key combination to get into the BIOS so I can double-check that it works ? Windows key, F2 ? Can't remember what was posted before.

ESC key a couple times right when you power on, it should then give you a boot menu and the last option is to enter setup.

(Wanna sell it or trade ??)
