Power Supplies for the GCT

For anyone buying the GCT's from eBay that don't come with power supplys, here is a good source:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2007207427

Adeal has LOTS of Gateway parts, I have bought from him many times and even bought a GCT from him not too long ago (came complete and with an ethernet adapter instead of the HPNA like the auction described) He has always been a good seller, ships very quickly and always has good quality

He is currently selling them for $35 plus $6 shipping in hi eBay store; He sells the AC cord extra for $4 or Radio Shack has them for $3. The complete AC adapter from Adeal will cost $45 shipped which is not too bad considering it's a larger power supply and has the correct end that fits the GCT.

First, thanks for all your work, BD! Next, I am supprised nobody has tried other power bricks besides Gateway's. Remember how many other machines Transmeta builds? My GCTP is running with a 12VDC, 2 amp (24 watt) powersupply from my Meade telescope. I have also run it on a Compaq brick with 15 VDC output. That means you can run it in a car or airplane with just a barrel plug right out of the cigarette lighter adapter. The reason Gateway chose their Solo PS for the GCTP is because they have them on hand. When a Touchpad is shipped from anyplace except Gateway, there is no power supply because thats the way Gateway ordered them from Transmeta. So, chances are good that any geek worth his salt has a power supply available in a junk drawer. Save the $25-$35 for more useful stuff.

I got my GCT from 'allasis' and used a 12V 1Amp power brick just fine, it came from a mini b/w 13" television. Works great!

The GCT power supply is 19 volts 50 watt, There are several different watt sizes of Solo PS, the standard is 60 watt but the one to get is the 70 watt. All the Solo AC adapters have the same size plug except for the Liberty series and the Profile adapters (The Profile's adapter is 19 volt BUT higher wattage, 80 I believe).

Gateway sells them for $35 plus $5 for shipping

I am surprised that a 12 volt PS worked, might want to check the output with a meter on that power supply; I would expect you might might find that you actually have around 15-16 volts.....

I got an extra dell power brick that is 19 volt, 3.16 amp. I have 2 GCTs on the way from the ebay as-is guy. My question is about the power connector on the GCT. Do you know the +/- setup. Is the center of the jack positive and the sheild negitive?

Thanks,

Yes. + is on the inside, - on the outside.
