According to Transmeta, they show the GCT which has a Crusoe TM5400 processor. This processor can be ran as fast as 700mhz, the Transmeta website even states the GCT is actually a 533 mhz computer (what's up with that??)

http://www.transmeta.com/everywhere/products/appliances/gateway/gateway_touchpad.html

I thought the regular GCT has a TM3200 processor?? You don't think that there is going to be a new version of the GCT coming out ? I had to bring something here, this section has been really cooling down lately!!

Hold on a minute....

The "specs" at http://www.transmeta.com/everywhere/products/appliances/gateway/gateway_touchpad_specs.html
states that it has 256 ram, PCMCIA card bus slot and 100base-tx ethernet.

This is a different machine, is Gateway going to sell these soon? (Yea, right!)

I was looking at the other internet appliances from other companies that they showed which used the Transmeta processor, I coulndn't find any that were will on the market for sale. 2000 was the year of of internet appliances, too bad they all appear to have gone under...

Perhaps the super GCT they showed was going to be the next generation for Gateway and never got delievered to the consumer since Gateway decided to cut costs for their stockholders. I wonder if there are a few of the higher end GCT floating around some where?

Hmmm, Interesting specs...

I bet these were in the prototype stage and never made it off the drawing board.

Bigdork !!!!!!!!
You were the one with the "early beta unit" right...Now I understand why you dropped off the face of this board shortly after telling us about that !
Were you in that appliance group ?

yea and I was striped of all documents before leaving. We have all been walked out. I am sorry I didn't help more at the begining of this adventure. I was gaged when they found out about the group. Funny thing is it was an internal source in management that told me about this group. I am better out of that place anyway. I will keep reading what you all have done to the unit. I always said it will only sell with a useable OS installed. They wanted AOL's money and sarified the system for it. That is ok thou, this is the f-up that got Jeff(CEO)fired. That lousy SOB. I wish I got $5M+ for being fired.

That's a real power for the course in regards to the super GCT!

If Gateway didn't have their head up their A$$, they could have sold those better GCT's in production if nothing but to a group of grass root "hacker" supporters and support only the design. Of course money always comes into the factor. There first mistake was the $599 price (discounted to $499) of course when they sold them for $149 I am sure they still made some profit!

Transmeta should be forced to remove the advertisments of all the internet appliances powered by their processor, out of about five listed, I could only find one that was stll in production and even then I couldn't find a price on it.

Good to see you back Bigdork! Is there any new things you can tell use about the GCT since it's a "dead" product?

Even at $599 they were losing there a$$. AOL subsidized it all. The limited number of them that was build drove the per unit price thru the roof. If people r looking for cool systems and r willing to pay for them keep looking to Gateway. The Profile line of computers offers the all in one feel with usability of Windows. After you add up the cost of all the mods everyone has done to the web surfers you are only short a few dollors from buying a waranteed system. I have to hand it to this board I have learned more from you all that school could ever teach:)) I would also like to personaly thank the finder of the 712 driver that made the touch sreen work, I had no was to get that from the vendor even inside of Gateway. This is the only use of this touch screen chip I am aware of. For those of you with touh sreen problems there were some bad touch screens that were liquidated with no Warantee sorry.
And those of you in the industry reading this HI guys!

ya but you need the correct panel with the correct wire harness there is a special socket in above the heatsink on all of them I have seen. I beleave you also need the correct inverter board that plugs into that socket. I don't know if it was left when the IDE pins were demoted from the board? I took the panel off of one of the super units and put it on a preprodcuton unit and it worked just fine. That was close to a year ago so I don't remember it to clearly.
I wish I knew the model number to tell you which ones work.

FIC use a TFT for their Aqua device and it's the same platform, actually the 712 drivers that BD found work great on that device !

Yellow1;

Are you saying the touchscreen drivers for the GCT workd on the AquaPad ????

I downloaded the drivers for the Aquapad touchscreen and they didn't seem to work on the GCT but there was many settings for the controller and I didn't play with it too much. There was a disclaimer in the readme that stated that the driver would only work on the Aquapad....

According to this site:
http://www.aquapad.org/
A W2K and WinXP version are forthcoming, so that's probably a good source for the touchscreen drivers.
Were you referring to XP drivers yo downloaded Bigdog ?
cheers
