Hi.

I'm new to this Gateway AOL Touchpad forum. I wanted to know what software besides the bare minimum, WindowsXP/or WinME with Winamp *Lite*.

Can you run other programs like a normal PC if you have the harddrive space?

Just curious.

Windows 98 & ME works fine and the touchscreen drivers work under these OS's; Windows 2000 & XP works better with better preformance esp if you add more memory (256mb 16 chip SODIMM) Midora Linux and presumaly other flavors too. Pretty much any OS that will fit on a CF or hard drive if you add one.

Larryf5 - As is, the device only runs AOL. Once you add the operating system of your choice the machine becomes a normal pc.

For example my GCT: Runs 98Lite on 128MB Compact Flash with 128MB RAM, Touchscreen drivers, Winamp, Windows Media Player, Adobe Acrobat, Internet Explorer 6, also Word, Excel and Powerpoint viewers (FREE MS Downloads). Full Office 97 would probably fit but I dont have a copy. Connected to the web via a Linksys USB ethernet adapter.

The only thing it will not do is play video smoothly. The video card is just too slow. So that means NO DVD and NO DiVX.
