no modem seen in winme

New Messageno modem seen in winme (modified 0 times) gadgetjon
Profile | Email
Hi all. my GCT with winMe does not detect the built in modem. I've got the ethernet version, but haven't tried the ethernet yet. I've searched the board here and everyone says the modem should just work. Control panel showed a serial port and parallel port under modem, so I removed them and rebooted, but still no plug&play modems detected. Is there a driver somewhere for the modem, or what type of modem should I say is installed? sound and touchscreen are working fine. Thanks for your help.

try just installing the standard 56k modem on COM1, I don't believe the Actiontek modem is P&P.

Also some have used the external 56k modem drivers from Actiontek with success too.

Ok forgive me but, a silly question...

You didn't take the modem out? it's the rectangular card held in place with 4 screws? I helped a guy awhile back who took it out in order to have room to install a hard drive and didn't realize it was the modem; other than that there is no other modem unless you have a HPNA mini-pci then there is a soft 56k modem you can use; it requires the Gateway drivers. (the orginal GCT with HPNA didn't utilize the modem on the HPNA as the wasn't a driver under the Midora OS).

I do know that Windows XP detected a soft modem in one of mine once (not the regualer one or HPNA), but I never could find drivers for it and it was the only OS that detected a modem from the Ali chipset.

not a silly question, bigdog, but the perfect answer. Serves me right for waiting months between tinkering sessions. Thanks.
