All,

I have been able to get 98 to work fine but when i either do a clean install or an update to XP. I get a boot error - got a slightly different error when tried to boot to 2k (ACPI error). Any Help Please?

can you be a bit more specific on the boot error? Also, how far does it get in the installation? How are you doing the install? (on another machine? Copied the CD to HD?)

OK, usually when you get the "NTLDR is missing" error, it's because XP/2000 is a bit quirky about it's partitions on the HD. Basically if you created a partition with 98 or similar, it will create a single partition using the entire drive. Sounds good so far. Everyone is going, "yeah, so? That's supposed to happen." Well Yes, but XP is a bit weird. 2000 is this way too. It wants to leave about 8MB of unpartitioned space on the drive. If it doesn't have this, SOMETIMES it won't boot. So, the easiest way to fix this is to put the HD into a laptop or something that you can boot from CD. Use the blue XP setup screen to repartition. If you delete the existing partitions and then create a new one, it will automatically leave 8MB unused. then you can reformat the partition and copy the install files to the drive. Hope this helps.

All,

I finally got WinXP working - except for the touchscreen -tried both sets of drivers from Kaptain Mykes(The Chipset is a microclock mk712r at u4)-

Here is what i did
1) Installed a HD in a lap top
2) Clean installed from a Dell Product Recovery CD for Win 98 2nd edition
3) Loaded the HD with ultimate ZIP, CD Rom USB Reader Driver, USB memory reader, all drivers from Kaptain Mykes Kasa (http://www.kaptainmyke.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=12&t=100&s=e318afa49b8e97934dc56190884afa77) and a folder that had all the contents of WinXP pro intall disk
4) Installed HD in GTC
5) Allowed win98 to fully load
6) Loaded all the drivers for above
7) check to make sure each worked
8) Ran Winxp Update Install from HD folder on GTC
9) Let Fully load
10) Reboot at least twice to find all Hardware
11) Reinstall drivers that needed to be updated
12) Waaaah Laaaah - It should work

If anyone really gets the touchscreen drivers working on XP please let us know how (I had them working on 98 2nd Edition)

Hope this helps
