After reviewing the posts regarding the pinout for com ports on the gct and researching standard db9 connections, I've compiled this:

GCT         DB9
(c5)
1     ri       9
2     vcc    ?
3     dcd    1
4     rx      2
5     dsr     6
6     tx      3
7     gnd    5
8     dtr     4
9     cts     8
10    rts     7

Here's my questions: if I make a cable with the crossovers listed above will it add a usable com port? What does the rs232 board from Badflash do? There are 10 items mapped to the 10 pin header, but only 9 used in a db9, so is the vcc (5v) left out? Do 9 pin devices use their own power?

Where can I get a 10 pin 2mm connector and wire?

Thanks for any responses,
-Drun

Ok... (No offense, but try doing a search first..)

The two com ports on the GCT (same on the i-Opener) are TTL ports NOT rs232, BadFlash's IO RS232 board converts the TTL (5 volt) signel into a 12 volt (actually about 10 to 11 volt but enough to work) RS232 signel.

It's been a long time ago but I codeman and I did the pinouts for the two GCT ports and I made up a diagram of matching pin numbers to make a adapter cable.

Yes, the port are functioning TTL com ports; to be functional you need RS232 com ports.

Sorry about that!! Here I posted with being a little bitching, I apologize!!

I got my parts from DigiKey for the 10 pin header and just used 44 pin cables bulk I had (for IDE cables) and cut out in 10 pins to the length I needed.

Sorry to be so abrupt... I didn't even read you orginal post and notice the reference to the old thread on RS232.

The modem on the GCT and I-Opener modems are identical (pinout's at least) Badflash's board would fit if the USB and RG11 telephone line ports weren't there. I actually made a DSSEMU machine a long time ago which was dedicated to EMU and I actually removed the USB and RG11 ports to make room for the Badflash RS232 board and also cut the area out so that the CF card could be easily removed with taking the cover off (This was back in the easy going days of EMU and eveything ran on MSDOS so the CF card was formated with DOS).
