I thought it was supposed to come with the unit, but mine didn't. I would like to at least try it out with the original software, but since they didn't give it to me.. i can't. Anyone know where it can be downloaded?

Not having a GW HPNA I can't try this but I believe the software is loaded on the CF. Go to settings/connections and choose home network. Let us know how it works.

Is it safe to assume that Gateway does not pass the credit card information to AOL and sign one up for AOL?

Or that there is no need to cancel an AOL account before the first bill is sent?

i can't figure out how the AOL thing works...i didn't get the AOL for home networks software so I can't try that way...and when it dials up it gets the local numbers, dials again, then disconnects me...so i can't try it that way either...if they are trying to play to the AOL crowd with this thing they have a LONG way to go

I asked a Friend who has always been with AOL,
& he said He Thought this "AOL Home Networking" is a Type of Account, not Software !
Something about You use to be able to Only Use 1 Screen Name @ a Time.
Now Mom & Dad & Kids Can all be active @ the Same Time.

Makes some Sense to Me, so I Repeat It !

Nope, it is actual networking and allows you to have multiple machines online at a time.... (ok maybe not actual networking, AOL's version of actual networking

You can find this at http://www.aol-files.com

They got pretty much any AOL tool/application/client you would want.

is this what i'm looking for? I tried to download it, but it isn't uploaded yet. After doing a search for it, it seems like it is just a client that establishes a TCP/IP connection to AOL for use with other applications. Does anyone know where to get AOL for home networks beta? I would like to try to use this with the original software because i'm too cheap to buy a compactflash card.

I have the Software for the AOL for home networks. It wouldn't work for me and here's why. I have 2 systems splitting a Cable line thru a 10/100 Linsys switch. I pay 9.99 a month more because I use AOL as another means for the rest of the Family to use (EASY INTERFACE). I tried connecting the GW.T.P. to the switch and installing the Software, which I had to call Gateway to get, and It would not allow me to create an INSTANT AOL ACCOUNT. Instant AOL can only be used if you are a FULL subscriber to AOL. I have full access, but I'm not paying 24.00$ a month so they don't count that as FULL access. I was on the phone w/AOL for about a total of 6 hours, and the bottom line was, to get around all of it, I would have to pay 24.00 + 9.99 for the touchpad to have access to using the Home Network Software. I started getting technical with one of the main guys in the INSTANT AOL department and he gave up with me and said sir " We are still in Beta stage of all of this, everything doesn't work yet" LOL!! Thats when I stumbled on to this site, linked from an Ebay auction. Instead of returning the POS, I'm going to do what U all are doing. If you want the software, I'll burn a copy. I can get it to you faster than Gateway can. It took them 2 days to figure out that they even had the CD to give out :)

I would like to try this software. I have the same setup as you though, accessing AOL through cable modem for $9.99. If the software isn't that big, could you email it to me? My email is kbloink@robotprinting.com I can accept large files through this account. Thanks

I'd like to have a copy of the Aol for Home Networks software included with the unit too.

Please, if anyone wants to help a poor soul, get in touch with me and we'll arrange for dcc / ftp / whatever.

Thanks in advance.
Willy.

Does ANYONE have a copy of this software. I've spent at the least 10 hours on the phone with AOL and Gateway and neither can supply a copy. The web site has been pulled. Gateway says they only support the hardware. AOL says they never had the software, you can only get it from Gateway. I'd be more than happy to pay someone for their time and effort and supplies to burn me a copy.

I just want to connect an unhacked TP to a home phone network for my daughter... an AOLaholic.

If anyone can help email me at kevinpshan@aol.com.

I know - I know it doesn't really belong in this post, Butttttt....

If you have been a long time AOL customer like I have (about 8 years) and have been slowly decreasing your AOL service - Call them and tell them that you want to cancel the service. I stopped using mine about 3 years ago and kept it up for my parents who used it as their primary e-mail accounts. I finally got them a domain name set them up some business e-mail accounts that made sense so i called to cancel the AOL - save me $10 bucks a month!
The first person on the phone gave me two free months of service and told me that "I can't cancel you now sir - at the end of your free period you are still unhappy with the service call me back and we can cancel it then." After a fifteen minute conversation and still no canceling I was livid. I hung up the phone knowing I wouldn't get anywhere with this person and called directly back. This time I spoke to a really nice gentleman who politely asked why I wanted to cancel if I had two free months? I went thru the story and to make a long story short... He gave me the same thing as the $9.99 bring your own access deal for $2.99.

for that cheap - I had to keep it - and the way thay look at it $2.99 is better than $0.00! Just relaying my experience - thought you would all like to know.

PS - I'm about to buy a GCT so you may be hearing a lot from me. (of questions that is)

Djinn...
