Stil no opinions on the Tension anyone?
I did indeed solder the 3.5 ide straight to the pads. it was indeed somewhat of a pain (Not too bad really) The order of soldering is pretty straight forward, no flipping, just follow the numbering printed by the pads. I cut every other wire a little shorter to avoid bunching it up. The cool thing is that there is no problem whatsoever with the shield. Now I have an IDE cable and IDE power sticking out of the little side/back door 
I made a tiny mod to get power from the 19 (or 12-24) V. and regulate to 12V. I used a Radio Shack regulator, a couple of caps a 5v. Relay (coil since I had one) and a couple of diodes. The regulating part works great, the switching not so great. I can solder but I'm no electronics engineer so I might need some advice.
I'm getting the 5v between ground and the HD 5v. pins, I guess it turns out that as long as the GCT is plugged in the HD 5v. has some tension to it (something around 3v) wich is enough to keep that relay excited is that normal? Keep in mind that I connected both Pin # 41 and 42 for voltage as I saw they're both connected to the power plug in my 2.5 to 3.5 hard drive adapter. Are they supposed to serve different purposes?
The 3.5 hard drive gets both 12 and 5 and it does spin down when I turn the gct off, but the 12V. stays on (therefore does the 12V. fan connected to the same 12V.) not quite what I was trying to achieve.
