Ok, I need serious help with a 32meg sandisk

Im currently working on getting a 98lite/slimmed down 98 os on a sandisk.
However, I can not get the sandisk to boot on the machine, I get a invalid boot device or something like that.

Anyhow, I NEED to get a 32meg image with just DOS and on one partition and active at the least. Can anyone do that? I can only use my sandisk reader/writer under windows and freefdisk and fdisk do not seem to create the partition (and able to set it active) correctly.

Ill take a win98/winme image, and inject my own key, or a dos image! Thanks in advance to anyone that CAN help.

The only way that I could set my Compact Flash to be bootable was using Ranish Partition Manager in Windows ME.

I have a USB card reader. Under WinME, Ranish will recognize the drive and allow you to format it and set the boot flag.

This only works under Windows ME for some strange reason.

There may be a Linux solution as well . . . Anybody care to elaborate?

I've been trying to do the same with a Lexar 128mb CF, with no luck. Always get the 'invalid system disk' error. Something weird is happening with Ranish on my machines as well..... whenever I run it, it only detects two hard drives, one at 11mb and one at 16mb. The REALLY weird thing is, it detects this regardless of whether I'm running XP, 98SE, or ME..... on TWO different machines. Anyone have a clue as to what may be up with that? I've tried this with a compressed CF and an uncompressed CF... no luck with either.

I was getting the same garbage messages.
I am using a 128mb card.
I have 98lite, touchscreen, Winamp Lite, Office 97, IE 6 all crammed on there.

Here's how I created my image:

Hook up a laptop hard drive to the Gateway with a special IDE cable from BigDog (I think).
Install 98Lite and compress it waaaay down.
Now pop that drive into a desktop pc and create an image using whatever image software you prefer.
(I used Norton Ghost).

Next take a CF card and put it in the USB CF reader on your WinME machine.
Run Ranish in a command prompt window.
It should see the CF Card as a drive.
Format the card FAT16 NOT FAT32
Set the Primary partition to ACTIVE and set the boot flag to PARTITION 1
Ranish has this setting somewhere. Read thru Ranish settings carefully.

Next, write your image to the CF Card using your image writing software.
(I used Norton Ghost Explorer and just copy-pasted the files from the image onto the CF card).

Now pop the CF card in you Gateway and turn it on.

It should boot to 98Lite.
