SanDisk 256Mb Windows 98 SE

I just finished getting 98SE installed, all the hardware working and a few programs installed. I put the CF card in a CF to IDE adapter and installed on a different computer from CD-ROM. Then I deleted all the hardware in device manager, shut down, then put the card in the GCT after putting all the driver cabs from Windows and the GCT drivers on the card with a third computer and also deleted a bunch of unwanted Windows stuff. I booted it and ran the "Find New Hardware" wizard. I also have put an Intel Pro 100 mini-pci NIC in and took HPNA out. The NIC came from a ThinkPad. Hopefully I can squeeze an AppleWorks 6 installation on it or I might have to buy a bigger card. Yes, AppleWorks exists for Windows, it's only about 30Mb installed and gives you some light productivity capability. I left IE and installed IrfanView, WinAmp and RealAlternative/Media Player Classic. I was really suprised with the speakers. I tried a 2.2Gb CF Type II Microdrive and a PIO 1Gb CF and neither would boot. It seems SanDisk is the way to go. Now I have run Cat5 into the kitchen. I'll make a Ghost image when I am done.

Keying from the GCT right now, I'll have an FTP server as soon as I get around to it. In the meantime... who owns Ghost 7.X and has an FTP server with anon upload? Also, I have working a SanDisk ImageMate SDDR-91 CF Reader/Writer and an USB to IDE (hd-d1-u2 w/ 20Gb Fujitsu) enclosure attached and a Xonix 256Mb USB 2.0 Flash memory watch from ThinkGeek.com and a AITech sk-7100 keyboard. Other drive image file types may be possible, I will consider requests. Oh, I have 80Mb RAM. I wish I had something decent like Linux running, this was easier at the moment.

To be careful not to WEAR OUT the compact flash memory it
would be great to have this work with the compact flash set to read only.

It's probably near impossible, but has anyone explored ways of making Windows 9x
only write to a ramdrive and NOT modify files on the compact flash?

Midori Linux does this as well as CDROM based Linux distros (Slax, Flonix, ...)
