IDE to CF solutions??

New MessageIDE to CF solutions?? (modified 0 times) justme

Hi,
I found the following (near the bottom of the list) at http://www.milesie.co.uk/Embedded_PCs/Acce/body_acce.html this appears to be a CF to IDE converter... something perhaps Codeman or Badflash could easily clone if it works as it looks (just connecting the dots so to speak).

Anyone with more local/reputable or best of all tested and working solutions please reply here (also as an aside does anyone know of a mini-pci IDE controller... if so has anyone tried it?)?

More info in this thread: http://www.linux-hacker.net/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/UltraBoard.pl?Action=ShowPost&Board=aolgw&Post=11 (one can be had for $20 plus shipping)

The device is an IDE-to-CF adapter, what you're looking for is a CF-to-IDE, which I don't believe exists.

Neat auction here for a Microdrive/CF Card Reader/Writer thats IDE, and fits in a 3 1/2 bay. $21.95.

I wrote to Pascal Dornier (pdornier@pcengines.com) which makes CF IDE adapters (unfortunately going the wrong way for our purposes). He wrote the following back... perhaps it'll be helpful... here is his reply regarding a CF to IDE adapter (to permit an IDE disk to run off the CF adapter, note he didn't understand in this reply the specific application device we are targeting thus his reply is a bit generic)...

-----------------------------------------

It is basically possible, but I don't see enough demand to make this a worthwile product for me.

Some pitfalls:

- CF card can run in ATA or in PC card mode. PC card mode is more complicated, and would require some glue logic.

- 2.5" drives run on 5V, most PDA's will probably use 3.3V supply for the CompactFlash card. Signaling levels need to be translated.

I think you would be better off using something like the IBM Microdrive.
