Ok, well 98:ite is up and running and while it's nice to operate the beast without any HD noise, I'm not entirely convinced of the efficiency of running from a CF.
First thing is that it doesn't make the already sluggish device any faster...since I had to use Drivespace to compress the disks.
The other thing is that some files from my main install can't be compressed (about 30 megs), so that brings down the overall 2:1 ratio down to 1.65. The SWAP file cannot be compressed either, so even if you limit it to 16megs, that's another 32 megs that go down the drain !
All in all, I'm left with about 60 megs to run on, which is probably ok to use it as a basic internet/mp3 streaming device.
If anyone's still interested, I can upload a 62mb .pqi (drive image) over the week-end and you can restore this to your HD and then copy it to a compressed (using Drivespace) 128mb CF. | |
