Video resolution and driver

under WinME even after installing the LynxEM+ driver I only get 640x480 and 16 colors resolution. It won't let me change either. Do I need additional memory for video under WinME? The fonts and the display look awful the way they are now. I checked the Hitachi site and the display is supposed to be 800x600.

Something wrong there, you should be able to select 800x600 and 24bit color.
Did you reboot after installing the drivers ?

Thanks. I thought something must be screwed up. I just reinstalled the driver and no change. I'm going to download the driver again and make sure it's the right one. And I think I'll reload the WinME cd on there and reinstall windows too. The drive came from an IO and I installed the drivers on top of it.

ouch...you're probably better off "biting the bullet" and reinstalling WinME. God knows what the windows setup does depending on the mobo/chipset/cpu, etc...

I ran Windows Update on my GTC (WinME), and it found a newer driver for the LynxEM+ on the Microsoft Update site than what has been posted here. I forgot to copy the link while I had a chance, you'll have to run Windows Update to find it....

I just reloaded everything from a clean fresh fdisk'd drive. same 640x480x16 even after installing the video drivers. This GCT is a used one so it occured to me that maybe it's a different version. but I'm looking at the m/b now and the video chip says LynxEM+. In case it makes a difference the numbers on the chip are:
LynxEM+
SM712G AA 0038
M6M9J M6A70
Taiwan G2DA

B'Dog, I'll give your idea a try. Thanks guys.

I wasn't able to get on the net to run windows update. So I went into system/devices and removed the VGA entry. when it rebooted it found all the right stuff. in fact it now it says it can go to 1024x768. It turns out what that actually does is scroll a 800x600 screen inside a 1024x768 window. that feature could come in handy though. and it now has settings for both 16 and 24 bit colors.

I haven't soldered my IDE so I am living through you guys for a while. I noticed when I go the unit the mouse trails are pretty bad, muc like early lcd portables. Does this fade or go away when WinMe is installed? I want to try running some OpenGL or winamp visualations.
If it works from the start you probably got bored with it after two weeks.

you have to remember this is a DSTN monitor...of course it won't have the resolution of an active matrix LCD...so it is unlikely that a different OS would make any difference for you
