I don't want to get in trouble but I am going to post a link to ebay that's selling the Silitek SK7100 which is a replacement for the crippled keyboard and has an ALT key! I bought one from another auction but found this one too. I didn't want this to be ignored.

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1237883802

I emailed the seller jammersports@msn.com he has more for sale too (At least a couple)

I'll keep you posted, but I think Gateway is going to send me the "right" keyboad with the ALT key. I asked them how to reset it, and they're like well hit ctrl shift and alt. I'm like there is no alt. They're like it's next to the space bar. I'm like well not on MY keyboard. They then send me a link with a pic of the correct keyboard. I told them mine doesn't look exactly like that. Sounds like they will be sending me a new one with Function keys and the ALT key.

It sure looks like the GCT kbd was based upon this. It would be interesting to see what we find when we take it apart and compare the two kbds and compare the IR receiver with whats in the GCT.

Here's a link to the SK-7100 on the manufactureres site:
http://www.silitek.com/keyboards/sk-7100.htm
They also have something in their support sectionm called the Airboard Manager for the SK-7100.
http://www.silitek.com/sup-index.htm
There is a 7100 section in their FAQ.
http://www.silitek.com/support/keyboard-faq.htm#17
It comes in three different models of PS/2 or serial connectors. I emailed the seller asking what connector is on the one he is selling.

I've been doing a little more digging. the SK-7100 is available all over the web. I've found it available from $79 down to $34.

$34 in Beige but check with them. maybe they have it in black by now.
http://www.coolsurplus.com/coolcart/inputDev/wireless_7100.html

$39
http://www.aberdeenpc.com/Components/Keyboard.htm

$50
http://www.cwol.com/keyboards/sk7100.htm

Now here's the good news. A UK site says that the SK-7100 is is Twirp compatible. http://www.twirp.com/index.htm
So it's got a published spec and protocol. the dongle at Twirp looks the same as the SK-7100. and there are spec validation tools that show the packets, scan codes, etc. Unfortunately the validation tools are $400 but maybe we can borrow a copy from someone until we find out what's going on in the gateway kbd.

I saw the Silitek SK7100(AOpen)IR Keyboard at Office depot and office max couple months ago for under $50. Don't know if they still carry it, They've been clearancing out a lot of slow selling stuff...

The "Express Pro Remote" that Gateway sells *IS* the SK-7100. The "Express Pro Remote" is available for $47 at http://www.provantage.com/scripts/go.dll/-s/fp_51151
and $49 at http://www.accessmicro.com/productinfo.php3?ProductId=KYBWS00WLESS
Since it's the same as the SK-7100 I'd go for either the $34 beige one or the $39 one listed in the earlier post.
Now we just need to get our hands on one and see if the sk-7100 can control the GCT.

This kbd is Twirp compatible.
http://icmdev.allelec.com/pgi-ProductSpec?KE5024S
Wouldn't it be great if it could be used with the GCT. It's only $5! Minimum order of $25. Anyone want to split an order of 5? It would be a complete shot in the dark if it's compatible with the GCT. If it's not you've still got a useful remote keyboard.
Hmm, now I see they have two - the other says $19 with a different part number but they both say they are the Sejin 8630 kbd. We could try for the $5 one and see what happens.

Ricko,

When you mean, "I asked them how to reset it" Where you reffering to the Keyboard, or the GCT itself???

Ah, the $5 one is the kbd only. the $19 one includes the transceiver. the $5 one will only be useful if we already know it will work with the receiver built into the GCT.

According to the thread "Into the Bios" http://www.linux-hacker.net/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/UltraBoard.pl?Action=ShowPost&Board=aolgw&Post=68&Idle=0&Sort=0&Order=Descend&Page=0&Session=bigdog.99036990145442
O2U2 states that the 7100 works,

The keyboard that comes with the GTC is a Siltek 7102 which I guess is the same except but in an OEM flavor.

The one I have is LITEON Model SK-7100 FCC ID GYUSK7100P. Midway down the label says, "Made in China by Silitek corp".
Like I posted on the other thread linked above, I was able to get to bios Splash? screen using Win key but unable to get past "Press F2" prompt. I tried using multiple key combinations.
I'v tested the keyboard w/IR Receiver on one of my other PC's and all keys work fine.

I'm not sure if Office Depot/Max carries these anymore, But if they do one could buy one to test and play with for awhile and if it does not work out, just save receipt and all packaging and return it within 14 days.

PS, It has 2 fairly powerful IR Emitters. I was able to bounce the IR signals off the walls all over the room here and the GCT Receiver picked them up, Tested during the initial aol setup phase (No I didn't sign up)

When I was talking about "resetting the unit" I was referring to the GCT itself. You apparently need an ALT key to do that. Why I would want to do that is to return the original CF card to it's original state. I used another guys aol login with him at work to just try it out. He liked it so much he ordered up two of them last week friday.

I'll keep you posted on the response with the keyboard and my sales person. Tech support referred me back to him after 6 messages through other people.

GRrrrr. WONderful tech support :(

Add me to the short list of those who claim the Silitek SK-7100 keyboard works. I happened to have the PC Concepts version on the shelf (was going to use it as a wireless kb with the i-opener, but never got around to that), and slammed 4 AA batteries in, and voila -- it works with the GCT. Looks like this is the one. The $5 version without the controller looks like a great deal if a small group purchase can be arranged.

Ok, confusion alert... The $5 keyboard mentioned earlier in this thread isn't the Silitek unit. Rather it looks like the keyboard form factor shipped with WebTV Classics. My guess is that particular one won't work with the GCT.

Instead, hunt down the SK7100, and you'll have a working replacement kb!

They sell it at Fry's in CA if that helps. They were out of stock though so I couldn't check the price

Randy, you're right. I probably should have been more specific. I was looking for alternatives to the SK-7100. The Sejin 8630 is Twirp compatible as is the SK-7100.
*If* it works with the GCT it would be a good inexpensive replacement especially since we don't need the receiver dongle. I plan on using a USB mouse so I don't need the mouse thingy on the kbd. I still plan on buying a SK-7100.

Here's my update on the Gateway supposedly sending the wrong keyboard. They were wrong. It took the 5th tech support dude to figure it out. But the correct keys to restart the machine to it's brand new state (with the AOL software) is CTL, Shift and +.

So I have to keep this keyboard.

Okay so I discovered that Ctrl-shift-E makes the aol screen fullsize, meaning that the Icons get smaller. Of course, those of you who arent using mom's aol account wont get that.

The help key (top right corner) in Win9x is the "sleep" hybernate key, found that by accident!

It's the Sleep key, but can be reassigned in control pannel/power settings to make the "Turn Off" for instance.

Just picked up an open box 7100 at Fry's for $20. Not a bad deal with the receiver, good for the GWCP without the receiver and for the Fujitsu instead of having to crawl under the desk and unplug my desktop keyboard

After noticing some problems with the "joystick" on the open box version I got, i opened up both the GW kbd and the Silitek one and substituted the key "block" and it works fine. Maybe someone can find an unused supply of these for cheap.

Can anyone tell me the part number for the sk-7100 key block. I've been talking with the company about repairing sk-7100's and I think they found a bunch. They told me a few part numbers, but I can't match them up because the keyboards I have are the sk-7102 that shipped with the GCT (no alt key). So If anyone that has a sk-7100 and is willing to take a few minutes to unscrew it and grab the part number that is on the bottom of the key block, I'd really be happy. If the part number matches one of the numbers that I was told from the company, I'll get as many as I can and pass the key blocks to anyone else that wants an alt key on their GCT keyboard without having to buy a sk-7100.

Thanks,
-Drun
