Will not boot from CD

For fun I tried installing a CD-ROM drive as the master boot device, no go. I used a bootable CD version of QNX 6.1. All it would do is a continual reboot cycle.

Although the system does have the ability to boot from the CD, the BIOS is not setup for this. Looking at a dump of the BIOS, it seems that the EDIT piece has been left out so there is no way to get into the BIOS as is. May need a spearate software. I have had no luck loading a different BIOS into the system to test. So far, every attemp to load a different BIOS into the system would fail. Almost as if they have the BIOS to read-only. On a side note, I did a System Recovery and it did upgrade the BIOS for me, although I am not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing yet. Need to get a FLASH programer first before I can try loading a different BIOS to test.

This may or may not work...

Have your hard drive hooked up as master.
Have the CD drive hooked up as slave.
Put Smart Boot Manager on the hard drive. It's freeware available from http://btmgr.sourceforge.net/
Have the Smart Boot Manager auto delay boot from the CD drive.

Yesterday I solved this problem of not being able to boot from CD. I found that even though the bios was set to boot from CD or Floppy before HD, The drive setup was not showing the CD because it was set to "none". So I changed it to "Auto" - it displayed the CD drive and I was then able to boot from CD.

janp,

This is great, would you care to elaborate on the steps you took to get to this point?
