State of the Hack
What's been accomplished?

I found one at auction for $29.95 and bought it for temporary AOL TV use. By next month, it'll be free to hack.

In reading through all the threads, it's not clear whether anyone has been totally successful in installing an alternative operating system that allows the IR Keyboard and ethernet capabilities to be used?

Can someone let me know if they've been able to use this thing with hi-speed connection with the wireless keyboard and not having to use AOL?

I'm also interested if anyone is using this with an ethernet adapter as a file server or MP3 server.

Has anyone posted images?

So far I've only used it w/DOS and the wireless keyboard to play MP3 files. Until we can get access to the default OS/FileSystem that's about it.

I got one of these units off eBay about a year ago. I purchased it since I was hoping to turn it into a PVR, TiVo type unit. It seemed like it has most of the hardware, it just needs some software tuning. Looks like the bios is the problem. I'm not a big programmer, but I know a geek or two that I'm been slowly enticing. Any new thoughts out there?

Haven't cracked the case on mine, so I haven't hooked a standard keyboard to do the Control-F2 access to BIOS. 8 Megs of RAM seems to be the biggest limitation. I kinda like the AOL Keyboard. I hope I can get it to work.

How do you get to DOS without wiping the AOL image off the hard drive? or can you?

Does anyone have a Linux image out there that's somewhat successful? If so, is the image posted anywhere? Has anyone gotten an USB ethernet adapter to work with the aol software or any other operating system.

You'll have to format and install DOS on another PC. As far as I know the only USB device that works is a CD w/DOS driver. And the only ethernet is one in a hacked in PCI slot. But not with the AOL software.
