Here are some "Answers" from my cousin to the non-specific questions.
More specific questions "can" be answered in detail.
I am acting as a "liaison" between my (cousin) and the BBS.
(MSQUARED)

1. Use of wireless keyboard
There is currently a dos TSR written for the serial keyboard.
There *is* a connector on the board that can be used to connect to a regular
keyboard.

> 2. Use of browser
> 3. MP3 Player
> 4. Rudimentary Video recording and playback (DiVx?)

All of these should be doable via any Linux kernel.
> 5. Access to broadband through USB or other connection

The easiest thing to do is to use ethernet on the PCI slot. I'm not sure the USB ports on the box are "standard".

What I'd do is make a very stripped down kernel, LILO it to the AOLTV
hard drive and see if it boots.

Since this is intended to be an answers thread, I figured I'd re-post the following info to summarize it in one place.

To add a PS/2 Keyboard:
Look for a 4-pin white connector located near the hard drive power connector on the board. On my board it's labeled as 1801. Pin 1 is toward the back of the board. The correct pinout for this connector is:

1 -> Data
2 -> Ground
3 -> Clock
4 -> +5V

The pinout for the standard PS/2 mini-DIN connector can be found at http://www.networktechinc.com/technote.html

To add a VGA monitor:
Look for a place for a 6-pin connector that is not populated. This should be immediately behind the hard drive. On my board it's labeled 1151. Pin 1 is toward the TV Tuner/RF module. The correct pinout for this module is:

1 -> R
2 -> G
3 -> B
4 -> Ground
5 -> HSYNC
6 -> VSYNC

The pinout for the standard VGA connector can be found at http://www.networktechinc.com/technote.html

More to come as I get detailed info on everything.

AOLTV is based on the VxWorks OS, which has a DOSFS file system.

The DOSFS file system is a modified version
of the FAT12 or FAT16 that supports large hard drives (in the AOLTV
case, 4GB).

Linux DOS support *might* work with the drives. If not, I would
expect that it would be very easy to modify the linux drivers to
support VxWorks DOSFS support.
