Circuit City Purchasing Policy?

New MessageCircuit City Purchasing Policy? (modified 0 times) DarkKobold
I was able to finally get a 2nd I-opener after frying my first one. Not that that is breaking news, but how I got it might be. Talking to the best CC employee I've met yet, he told me that he could purchase an item from any store in his area. They had one I-O about a half hour away from the CC I purchased the I-O from. He also said that he could not sell me that I-O over the phone, because of store policies... The company is watching the sale of I-openers closely... Strange, because one I am picking up today I ordered the same time I picked one up last week. Anyone else still having problems getting theirs from Circuit City?

Just got one in NH, have they always had the sticker on the box about "by breaking this seal you agree to sign up for monthly service"?
Does circuit city send them my info?

Just picked mine up today from CC. I saw the sticker saying that by opening it I agree to send Netpliance my info, so I went back into the store and had them delete my info out of their computers. My card was not charged until I picked it up, so I'm hoping that meant my info wasn't sent before the charge actually occured. If not I guess I can live with paying $21 for 3 months. It's still pretty cheap for the machine. What amazed me most about my dealing with CC was that none of them could grasp the concept of why I thought it was illegal for Netpliance to change the terms after the fact...

Did you explain to them why you wanted your name removed?
Can I call and ask the same?

I got mine today after putting a $20 deposit back in March 20, total price was$99 plus tax. It had the sticker which says
"by breaking seal you agree to use io service and paying 21.95 per month ETc."

I asked the manager if they were giving mailing and credit info to Netpliance, they said they were aware of I spoke to 2 "managers", they both were aware of the TOS and said that CC does not send any info to Netplicance.
Hope this is true, 'cause I just opened the ram port to see that there's no epoxy goop on it.
I was also able to
A) Hook up a tiny acer ps2 keyboard
B) Get into the bios setup and turn USB on
C) Hook up a usb keyboard with a ps2 port with a logitech ps2 mouse attached

Was the Netpliance epoxy fix supposed to prevent changing bios settings?
Has anyone else picked up there io recently at cc, if so does it have the epoxy?
What about the busted/removed pins?

Seems like NPLI has abandoned the BIOS goop on the latest version. The only thing making life difficult for the "hacker" now is the fact that units are hard to come by, with or without the TOS.
I'd buy another one at $99.00 with three-month service commitment, if I could just go down to the store and pick it up. I don't trust their direct order process.

Crom,
How did you do that? I just picked mine up but havent even touched it. Have you looked at the hard drive controller?
How did you get into the bios?

>Crom,
>How did you do that?

I had ordered my io back in March before this whole TOS fiasco started. I just walked in payed the balance at the customer service desk and split. Within minutes I has the thing pen its revision 3b Manufactured may12. It has a 266 chip clocked at 200 mghtz. The bios is epoxy free, all hd controller pins are intact. I guess since the new TOS agreement is in effect they're not bothering with the anti-hacker countermeasures.

Hook up a real ps2 keyboard and press ctrl alt esc.
