Yuuck! Looks like a smaller version of an old IBM 3270 terminal, or a Mattel attempt at an iMac. They should have used a flat screen to get the smaller footprint. THE selling feature of the IO is that small footprint. I can't see having a DotStation sitting on a kitchen counter or end table. On their site, Intel implicitly bad-mouths the IO as "...web appliances that use small LCD screens..." while Intel uses "...large, bright, high-resolutions screens..." (read "tubes").

Quote from the above article:

"People think of this as a traditional consumer product. The appliance is closer to a cell phone. Without the service, they are as useful as a paperweight," [Greg Welch, director of marketing for the home products group at Intel] said. "I fully suspect that a lot of these customers will fully subsidize the cost."

Hmm, I think I can remember a couple other companies that figured the device would be useless without the service....how many others are gonna make the same mistake? Muhahaha >:)

At that price ($500?), you can build something nicer that does not need any hacking at all. If it was $99, though...
