| Actually, New Deal Office and Geoworks Ensemble are the same product with different packaging. The suite actually began its life as "GEOS" (the "Graphic Environment Operating System") for Commodore 64, then for Apple 2, and finally rewritten with the beautiful Motif GUI for regular PC compatibles. The product was first published under Geoworks' original name "Berkeley Softworks" and then later as "Geoworks Ensemble" by Geoworks. A few years ago, several Geoworks executives split off from Geoworks and formed New Deal Software (newdealinc.com); New Deal published the desktop package, while Geoworks continued to produce graphical UIs for cell phones (Nokia, etc.). A few years ago, Geoworks and New Deal licensed the package to work on Brother's GeoBook line of cheap laptops. Now, the two companies are providing the package to the maker of the GlobalPC. Why do I know all of this? I used to work for the original company (Berkeley Softworks). So, you're both right and wrong, lol! | |
