It appears that CompUSA has followed CC.

No more IOs on their website.

OK so I go into a Computer City by me tonight. Nobody to gives me service, so I help myself to the information computer (I used to be an employee). No I-Openers in stock, and they are listed at $399.

I see a demo!! Ask the sales dude if I can buy it. He says it shouldn't be a problem. Talks to his manager. Comes back, and says he can't sell it since its the only unit with the special demo software on it. I tell him, "If they are coming back with a new model at $399, why do you need a demo unit of the old, discontinued model?". He goes back to his manager, who I see shaking his head. I was extremely frustrated. Once again I left CompUSuck angry and aggravated.

I visited my local CompUseless today and located an I-Opener on display to which was affixed a sign stating the price was $99.95.

I finally located a sales clerk and told him I wanted to purchase one. Ten minutes later, he returned only to tell me the units were out of stock. I told him I would gladly purchase the demo unit and he again disappeared. Another ten minutes passed and he returned with the news that he could not sell the unit for it was the property of NetPliance. Perhaps that is true since this is north Austin, which is NetPliances back yard, but this too is doubtfull.

The clerk would not summon the manager for me, but he cheerfully told me that they would soon be offering a new and greatly improved 2001 model and suggested that I would be much happier with this unit, whereupon I thanked him for his time and left.

CompUseless is such a good name for them. Went to the one near me last night. 44 pin laptop IDE cable? NO. PS2 Y-splitter? NO. Any small footprint PS2 keyboard? NO. What about I-Openers? NO. OK, how about a laptop privacy screen? NO. But they DID have a monitor glare filter for $99 (not a joke).
What a useless excuse for a store.

friar-

I suppose it's too much to expect that CompUseless could be any better. The storys about
Fry's certainly makes CompUseless look "average". I read or heard somewhere that a lot
of retail chains make %75 of the business during the Christmas season. I bet theses stores
are on "autopilot" the rest of the year.

The last time I was at CompUseless ( about 2 months ago ), I was talking to a very nice
sales lady who told me that the company had just laidoff half that people that morning!
Certainly sounds like a winner for customer support/satisfaction (NOT!). This was their
newest store in the area, seems that nobody was taking them up on their training seminars.
CompUseless and computer training, now there is an oxymoron if ever there was one.

The glare screen for $99 is a hoot. Their website lists a PS2 Y splitter, just fork over
$39 ( if they happen to have one ).

BTW, ever buy memory from them? You tell the drone at the counter what you want, he writes
the part numbers down, you take the paper to the checkout and pay for it, then take the
receipt back to the counter. The counter drone them calls a manager and they both unlock
"the memory room" and get your memory. Sheesh! Bet they give the counter drone a cavity
search each time that happens!

All I can say is, after dealing with CompUseless and CC for IOs over the past couple of
months, thank God I can order stuff over the Internet!

Hey all, sorry, just wanted to say I meant "CompUSA" or better yet, CompUSuck and not Computer City in my previous post. I guess I was so aggravated I blanked the name of the store out of my mind. (this location used to be a computer city, and they sucked back then too)
