| At the risk of setting off a stampede, this is a heads up on the clearance sale of the Cidco iPhone (corded phone with Windows CE-based 640x480 monochrome LCD touch screen and pull-out keyboard) for $79.90 at Fry's. The unit is designed to be used with ISP service from BigPlanet, but of course, since I posted this info to this board, that is obviously not going to be a permanent state of affairs.
I'll be taking mine apart shortly to see if it is based on the SH-3 or the VR41xx (there are ports of Linux to both), and we'll see if we can get Linux/X going on it like the Compaq IPaq. The form factor is fairly compact, like a small fax machine. The screen is not great, but it is legible. Maybe its innards can be torn out and substituted with an I-Opener's innards. Anyway, I'll post when I've got more information. | |
