(whatever model) all i have to do it.. get the 35 dollar kit.. hook up the hd.. and cpu fan.. go into bios and set it to boot from D: C: SCSI or whatever the new hard drive maps to.. then install windows/linux from existing intstalls that are on the hard drive? Where do i get the drivers for the video card sound card? etc? ..

RE:Can any I opener be made to run linux/win98 as long as no service agreement it reached? (modified 0 times)
Mine is a ver4 with a hacked ver 5 bios from http://www.badflash.com RISE 266 cpu SW3 and SW4 intact no goo on bios IDE ok with a proprietary sound device. If the Yamaha sound drivers fail to initialize the sound chip go here and download the VIA Sound Bridge drivers. (Basically get everything for the VIA Chipset) total download: 15MB (+,-) http://www.the-ctrl-alt-del.com/utilities.htm#VIA Here is a direct link to the sound drivers alone: http://www.via.com.tw/drivers/68mu111b.exe
That is about 10 MB download.
I upgraded my memory with a standard PC100 SODIMM 144pin 64MB module. (found in most laptops) Retails for about 35 bucks http://www.pricewatch.com which made a dramatic change in speed. I'm currently running Win98SE with no problems or issues. I have heard of the IO running Mandrake Linux 7.0 and Redhat 6.2. There is no real issues with those 2 OS's. The LCD screen is fixed at a 800x600 at 16bit resolution. The Video chip is of course a 2MB Cyberblade i7 from Trident. I even attatched a USB Linksys Ethernet adapter which pluged into my LAN here on a ADSL internet connection. The thing processes info with no problems. I added the sound mod so can patch to my car deck this is the sole reason why I bought the thing in the first place. I bought a inverter. (250 Watt) I did have a external 17GB 3.5" HDD mounted in a removable drive bay cartridge. I ran the IDE cable outside of the unit and also mounted a micro power supply for the drive in a small hobby case. I've found that to be a royal pain in the ass so am dropping a 3.2GB laptop drive in it as soon as I can get a I-Mod2 kit from codeman. I added the IDE LED mod so now have notification of IDE activity. I already have the lasana fan.
