3Com on Wednesday said it will discontinue Audrey, its Web-surfing appliance, and Kerbango, an Internet radio, by June.

Audrey

Anyone out there in the know with regard to the innards and OS of either??? There must be some soon to be displaced 3-com workers with tech info.

If they become availble for less than $200, there might be some potential. the shape would make for a nice digital picture frame.

A fairly detailed review of Audrey at Tech TV

... The $499 Audrey features a 7.75 inch touch screen LCD, 32 megs of memory, 16 megs of internal flash RAM storage, a 200MHz CPU, and a built-in 56k modem. Audrey's innards include a set of built-in speakers and a 1/8-inch headphone jack. 3Com packaged Audrey with a tiny infrared keyboard that performed well, but its small size (5 by 10 inches) left our larger-fingered users little choice but to hunt and peck at its keys. Audrey's clear stylus was easy to hold and worked well on the responsive touch screen...

The smallish passive matrix display had two main problems: a limited viewing angle and a distracting shimmering effect that was apparent whenever we moved our heads, even slightly, while looking at the display. ... We were also disappointed to note that the only display adjustment available was for the contrast level...

Audrey does offer some expandability through the inclusion of two USB ports a serial connection for attaching a PDA synch cradle, and a functioning (but unused) CompactFlash slot.

This version of the Tech TV article says it runs on QNX and works with a USB ethernet connection. CNET reported that it uses the National Semiconductor Geode Processor, like the webplayer.

I'm thinking it would look nice built into my dashboard. touch screen! infrared keyboard! please tell me there is an IDE header!!!!!
