* This probabily was in the threads somewhere, but I wanted to start a new thread.

I went to the local Target just for the hell of it to see if the I-Openers where really in stock. I went on with my search to no avail. Although I did find these two appliances that were realitivly cheep. Any guesses if they are hackable?

1) The Magnavox WebTV Model MAT965KB (This was small, not sure. $39.XX QTY. 06)
2) The Sony WebTV Model INT-W250 (This is the unit with the smart card reader. $90.96 QTY. 04)

Anyone want to hanzard a guess as to see if either are hackable??

on a guess, I'd say yes.. :) .. difficulty will depend on whether or not the cpu has linux/some other OS for it... the CPU in my DSS (RCA DRD420RE) for instance uses a variant of the st20, for which no linux has yet been developed. Further difficulty depends on what it boots from, and if there is anywhere available to connect a HD or HD controller. Buy one and let us know.. Pictures would be helpful.

The word from the wise is "no." I can't remember the exact reasons, but WebTV units aren't exactly the best candidates for hacking. I think the "buy one and let us know" advice is far easier to give than to take.

I bought a MAT965 at Office Depot for $9.66 and I took it apart and it does not look too promising. If anyone is interested I can post pictures of it! LMK
