Kinda interesting ...Saw it in this Sunday's CC flyer,
Me thinks me will check it out at the store...

http://fyi.cnn.com/2001/fyi/gameroom/02/19/ps1.mobile.monitor.idg/

I'm looking for an alternate GPS display for my Mobile i-Opener....This is smaller but potential possibilites...
Yes! has inputs for signals from other devices.
$150 can't go too wrong???

Evidently there are two types out...The first released model evidently REALLY sucks...
The second rev is awesome according to user feedback...

GWIZAH,
I'm not sure if it is...All the reviews talk about PS-1.

This is basically my final goal with the i-Opener <I'm 2/3 there> (but definatly not at that cost)

If I'm looking at this setup correctly, the screen partially blocks the center dash vents. With cool air coming out, I can see condensation problems for the LCD. Also it completely blocks the heater controls...pretty stupid. If you want to see a good implimentation of this LCD/GPS idea, check out a Nissan Pathfinder with a Navigation system. (It's expensive also). I'm working on a mobile system ....but I think my screen will be on a movable arm sort of like a cell phone setup. This will make it removable...less likely to be ripped off. I need a few more pieces to get things started. This PS-1 screen looks like a winner.

ckbone,
I agree. I made a deal at GoodGuy's on an open box CD player mount kit. It has a 20" stiff but flexable steel gooseneck and mounting brackets (Thats all I wanted). It was missing some other small parts so the manager let me have it for $15. My plan is to attach the base of the gooseneck arm to the floor and fab/mod a quick release attachment on the i-Opener end. The only thing I'm concerned about is vibration rattling the harddrive inside the i-Opener. One solution I thought of (if it will work) was to mount the hardrive externally on the floor with shock absorbing mount or under the seat. Then use a shielded interface cable. Ide cable length is another factor...I've found a couple new 3'MINI SCSI HP scanner interface cables and have the Mini SCSI 50 pin sockets...but if I remember correctly max Ide cable length is 18"? Anyone out there do this yet?

I actually have a working in car solution that uses a portion of a cd mounting system. I built a bracket thats comes out of my dash just above the glove box. It has a 1/2" bolt that the cd mount slides over. I modified the back of my iop with the snap on cd mount and it works great. The bracket provides some shock absorption. The iop doesn't block anything and can be easily swiveled for viewing by passenger or driver. It worked great on a 16 hour trip a few weeks ago. I have a gps system and a headphone output for mp3 playing. I plan to put up pictures and explanation of the entire hack on my website within a week or two.

I saw one of these ps-1 display units at CC. Unfortunately it was not hooked up, and the sales drone didn't seem much interested in doing so, even when I told him no way I'd buy one without seeing it working. It is very cute....has a sort of fold-out stand to use it with various devices. Believe it or not, in the box was a sheet of paper saying the thing contained "recycled" parts? It also stated the screen could be burned if it remained on a static picture for a long time.
If you had a websurfer, you could attach this to the top, giving you a pretty complete computer for $200. I'd still like to see the thing working....
