On the Connected Touch Pad, the Linux OS (based on Midoro-Linux) is placed on a 32MB CompactFlash. I could not find the way to enter the BIOS, but was able to get a Windows98 splash-screen, when I loaded (Win98) system files onto a CompactFlash and tried to boot from it.

Here is a pic of the board:

It does have an 44-pin IDE and a Floppy pinout. A laptop harddrive connected, spins up, but was not able to boot, because by default the BIOS is set to boot from the CompactFlash.

If anyone else has more info, please share......:)

Excellent picture! So it seems to IDE and floppy capabilities! Also has a SoDimm so that might be upgradable. This might enable us to get the groups buy process moving. It is all up to Bdog though! :)

Scan, thanks for the pic. Anything of significance on the back side of the board?

Here's the same link, clickable TouchPad Board Pic.

You say the drive spins up but the BIOS boots to the CF. What if you pop out the CF? Is the BIOS accessible?

The Gateway Connected Touchpad is manufactured by the same Taiwanese company that made the i-opener for Netpliance. This is basically an i-opener with a touchscreen.

Wow, This thing looks even cooler than the I-opener inside. Two USB, and compact flash + IDE headers..I want one! So have you tried hooking up a standard keyboard and trying to get in the bios?

The Touch Pad has the same Bios as the IOpener (SST 39SF202). Using a USB-keyboard, I tried entering with Ctrl+Alt+Esc and various other ways, but no succes so far.

Other specs are:

-Hitachi SX25S004 DSTN LCD
-Action Tec LF560LKIQ Modem
-Action Tec MP100R Ethernet Card
-Winbond 64MB SDRAM (Onboard)
-Mosel 32MB SDRAM (upgradeable)
-Bios version 1B14
-Motherboard IA2 M/B Rev. F P/N: DAOIA2MB6F1

Does anyone have any suggestions for entering the Bios?

Scan32,

This is great news (and a very nice picture)! This is looking better all the time. BadFlash has offered his services to analyze one of these and check out the BIOS. I've posted some other comments in the main thread, we may want to keep all discussions centralized there....

Hold on a sec. The unit in question may have an ethernet card, but the ones for sale don't in their "default" setup. Ethernet is touted as an add-on.

Think there's a PS/2 keyboard mount point hiding on that board somewhere? Perhaps a PS/2 keyboard will work better for getting into the BIOS.

Another option: Just hold down a bunch of keys while booting. This will generate an error that may throw you into the BIOS screens (prob not, but worth a shot).

Well, so much for combining the threads <g>. The unit comes stock with Home PNA (phoneline)Networking, we'll see if Ethernet is available from the seller or Gateway when we get talking....

The Touchpad is identifiable as a Quanta design, and there are marked similarities in the subsystem blocks, components, placement, layout and artwork with the I-Opener. The Touchpad seems to be the later and greater design, though. Certainly looks interesting, especially the Compact flash and mini-PCI.
