| That's not exactly true. We have no idea why the root password is the same on all the IOs, before the phonehome. Each IO has a unique username sXXXXX (XXXXX=your serial #) if they can make a unique username for each box, there's no reason they could ship a unique root password also.
I have the feeling that the root password isn't truly random, it's a unique password probably based on your serial number. (I wouldn't be shocked to find that they just xored the serial number with some "master password".. of course that'd be dumb, because then you could just xor the password with the serial number, to get the master password) | |
