Here's an interesting one. Available in the US here:

Evidently, this system is popular in Australia here:

I've been looking for something like the NTV-2500. I've been using a BookPC for this purpose but it doesn't have the consumer electronics "look" to it. The other set top boxes like the Websurfer and Acer NT-150 have the "look" but don't a have a place for the DVD drive.

It is amazing how the line between PC's and consumer electronics and appliances is getting blurred.

Electronics run on smoke, if you let the smoke out they won't work

a little expensive id say. Part of the whole hacking thing is making more out of less.

Well, from looking around. It does seem to be a PC inside, and since it seems to be running QNX, it looks very promising. Anyone have more info on this unit. Although I am more interested in the NTV - 2500. Might just try one at that price. The following is what it list as having.

QNX Voyager technology
Intel 486DX4 100Mhz
33.6Kbps data modem
RCA jacks & S-Video jack for Video
Video jack for TV
hardware ports for a printer or zip drive
VGA port
infrared keyboard, mouse, and a remote-control handset

(laughing) kNiTe-oWl , you didnt' check out the models specs throughly , the ntv-500 uses 486 proccessor and in ntv-2500 it's intel Mobile Pentium 266mhz mmx! :) so the ntv-2500 is dvd supported while ntv-500 is not

I guess I didn't make myself clear. I know the NTV-2500 has a 266 processor and is going for $399. I didn't mis-read the spec or price. What I said was that I was more interested in that model(NTV-2500) instead - I still am, but I posted the spec for the NTV-500 because that was the model that Ziptar has origial request info about. Sorry for all the confusion. The NTV-500 doesn't have DVD support, it is just a web browser and email machine, while the NTV-2500 is a DVD player also.

I ordered one of these a couple of days ago at $79. One thing that seemed unusual was that shipping (UPS Ground) is $20 flat rate. That seemed high, but I wanted one to mess around with.

It has gone back up to $299. Once, I receive it, I'll post my findings, but I doubt anyone will be interested at the $ 299 price :)

Here's a review of an early Websurfer which has similar specs and looks like it might have been the same machine:
