Sony Evilla-A Hacker's Delight?

The Sony Evilla is being released on June 14 for $500 (ouch). Sony has greatly expanded the www.evilla.com site. BeOS and Opera. Worth hacking? The mandatory ISP is Earthlink. If you have it already, they jack up the monthly charge $3. If you get it, it's a regular Earthlink acct that works on anything else.

Hmm, Looks like its running a geode, same as the Compaq Ipaq internet appliance. So you think sony has learned something by watching the other I-appliances crash and burn yet? I, for one think the addition of a CRT, like CMI's icebox, Is a big improvement over the runny, DSTN screens of the local variety;Webplayer, GCT, I-opener....

Gotta make it bulky though, but I agree, the quality of the screen is probaby fantastic if it's as good as my Sony 17" crt.

The LCD of the GWCP is actually pretty good, not quite TFT, but much better than the Webplayer IMHO.

As far as hacking goes, judging by from what's on the website, it might be the first "appliance" (notice how they don't use that "cursed" word), where you might be better off not hacking it or at least installing another OS.
BeIA is supposed to be a speed demon and probably much better suited to take advantage of the lowly capabilities of the Geode than say Win98 !

According to a talk I had with Sony last year, there is no IDE interface.
