all in one design, over 500 bucks, so, not a cheapy, but, interesting none the less... hehe, didn't Commadore try this once? :)
actually, I think this might be the way pc's are headed... with separate LCD screen, nice neat package.

Interesting,
Thats how I'm using my Toshiba P-III 700 Notebook I found dumpster divin'. As a all in one keyboard!
It was tossed because the LCD screen was shatterd. A replacement LCD cost exactly $100 less than the cost of a new notebook. I still can't figure that out?
I removed the screen and it now makes a Perfect "All in one keyboard" with DVD and floppy drive.
Hooked up a display to the VGA output and works fantastic!
I'm waiting for the desktop LCD displays to drop a bit more in price and then I'll use one of those instead of the 19" CRT.

It's like the built in thermostat that costs 1/2 the price of a new air conditioner. They figure they have you by the short hairs so they charge what they think they can get away with, usually just under what the item would be worth once you repair it.

Get the OEM part number off the old screen and see if you can find it on the surplus market. Try it in some search engines and see if you get lucky, or I can give you the contact info for some trade mags if you like.

Hehe, yeah I'm getting a Commodore deja-vu feeling as well. Reminds me of my old Amiga 500, were ever it may be nowadays.

I guess everything old is new again, someday.
