Someone named FRED actually offered something useful to the board. In the eBay Section I ran across this
http://www.linux-hacker.net/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/UltraBoard.pl?Action=ShowPost&Board=alinks&Post=299&Idle=0&Sort=0&Order=Descend&Page=0&Session=johnqpyro.99899219088865

After getting it via UPS, and Fired it up and found it to be a Flavor of Linux w/ Netscape, and Citrix for Linux already Installed. I connected it to my home network, and right out of the box was on the net. Cracked it open and installed a 4gig Laptop HD and enabled the IDE Port in the Bios (Hit DEL). Booted to Win98 no Problem. Has a Full Range of ports on the back including Ethernet,Audio, Printer, Usb and 2 serial ports.(I'm thinking Emulator). It cam Brand New in the Box w/ Keyboard and Mouse. Running at only 180mhz its not zippy, but what do you want for $50

I got mine for $39.00 + shipping, but they sell them direct from there website for $50
http://www.dyna-comp.com/html/cpd/jnc205.html (No I DON'T work for them) I just think it's a good deal....

I found Win95/98 Drivers for the WinNET 5BLIP Motherboard here
http://www.bcom.com.tw/documentation.htm

See the first link for the original eBay listing, I am hoping they will auction more for $39

Good Luck,

JohnQPyro

Installing a NIC is'nt nessesary, the BocaVision JNC205 has one intergrated on the motherboard. I finally found a way to use my Warplink Wireless Networking Adapters. Since I use Win2K we all know how they Don't work. I have installed Win98se and am using it just to server my Network.

Works Great

Good Luck,

Did you ever find a NIC that worked for your server/router combo?

If so, how do you like it?

How about this baby as an alternative. I need feedback to make major purchasing decision (mailto:me@lonnypaul.com)

(CROSS POSTING)
What type of demand would there be for a sub $40 eMachines MSN Companion (it doesn not have a display, however built in VGA).

I need to know..... yes, it's like another Audrey deal. They are smaller than most 3Com cable modems!

Here's the specs:

National Geode 200 MHz

32 MB SDRAM
1MB Shared SDRAM (800x600)
16 MB Flash Memory
56K* ITU V.90 Hardware Modem
Full-size eBoard keyboard; USB Wheel Mouse
HTML, Java Script, Java VM, Macromedia Flash, ActiveX Controls, Microsoft Windows Media Player-MP3, Windows Audio, and Streaming Video
1 VGA 15-pin D-sub type connector; 2 USB ports for mouse and printer; 1 PS/2 keyboard connector; 1 RJ11 phone/modem jack; External power connector
Microsoft Windows CE 2.12, Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0

I missed an auction on eBay for one of these. It went for 16.50 ASArrGGhh!!!!

They looked like they might work well for this application. Where can you get them, and whats the pricing for them ?

Thanks

no, i havent installed the second network card yet. i have a problem with the ram (i think).

the installed linux booted up only once, then it always screwed up. i tried to do alot to get it running again, but then gave up and installed a laptop hard drive. slackware setup did not work. mandrake setup did not work. windows setup worked upto a point, but i couldnt boot to windows. there was randomly either a bluescreen after the windows logo or a protection fault during plug 'n play detection. also, i noted random pixels appeared when the windoze logo showed up. the only explanation for me is a ram failure as the video ram is inside of the main ram, that would also explain my random installation difficulties. i have tried to switch the two ram modules without luck. i need to get some replacement modules, but i dont have time for that right now.

i am wondering if anybody else had the same problem....

Try Running a dos/windows independant memory test, that is built into SUSE LINUX for example and try running SUSE alltogether, also I've never heard of of VIDEO memory being inside of Regular MEMORY shared memory yes that I can see.
But in either case try running the memory test see what it comes up with, if it fails then we have a problem.

oh, now that u say it: i forgot to mention that i have tried memtest from dos and it worked without any failures. that's what is wondering me the most! i still believe it is some kind of memory failure, maybe the chipset is malfunctioning or something. but its really strange!

Closet cleaning time. I have one of the JNC205's that I have never gotten around to hacking if anyone is interested. Brand new, still in box. These work very well as a stand-alone machine (car MP3), but I don't need 2, so 1 has to go.

If interested, email me at techgadgetaddict AT yahoo DOT com.

Sorry about the post in the wrong place, but this thread talks about these thin clients specifically...
