If you find news about a good CompUSA, Best Buy, CC etc. RETAIL STORE advertised sale or deal on something that could be used with a I-Appliance, let us know here.

Don't forget to say what store, and sale dates if you have them.

When you post, this thread moves up to the top of the list so people will know to look.

Thanks! Enjoy the BBS and thanks for your support!

Ok, I'll bite...

(CompUSA) 4-port USB hub from Belkin for $19.99 after $10 rebate.

I've seen Circuit City offer the NetGear USB 10Mbit Ethernet adapter for $19.99 after $20 rebate for the last few weeks, not sure if it is still active.

Got my Toshiba MK-6411 (or MK-6412) hard drive from http://www.spartantech.com at $154. They appear to be a small shop with good pricing on a wide range of gear.

FWIW, I went Toshiba vs. Hitachi due to the Toshiba's lower profile (8.5mm vs. 9.5mm), larger cache (1M vs. 512K), and 3-year vs. 1-year warranty. It arrived in two days. Sweet.

Runs nice and quiet (though I don't have a Hitachi to compare noise levels with), and very cool. Sitting on an external 44-pin cable, it was barely above room temperature even after an hour or so of running time. I'm now contemplating staying with the passive heatsink (and worrying about transferring too much heat to the drive), or just biting the bullet and going with a low-profile cooler.

not exactly,

the toshiba mk-6411mat and mk-6412mat drives do not have 1mb caches, they have only the standard *512k* cache. the model you are referring to that has the 1 mb *cache* and is also ata66 instead of just ata33 is the mk-6414map. the mk-6414map's form factor is also 9.5mm instead of 8.5mm and is listed at $163 at the spartantech site that you mentioned and not at $154 like it's lesser sibling the mk-6412mat. AFAIK the mk-6412mat and mk-6411mat have no differences in specs listed at the toshiba site. hope this clarifies some info that may be misleading. this is after some checking of the toshiba, spartan, and pricewatch websites.

as alvays,

skyvarp: *doh*, thanks for the correction. Mine eyes glazeth over between the 6411/6412 (same drive, 8.5mm, 512K, UDMA/33, different track-per-inch densities according to Toshiba's site) drives and the 6414 (9.5mm, 1024K, UDMA/66).

ObDeal: Has anyone checked to see if Digi-Key has the cheaper 2mm-pitch cable in stock now? You can also get 2mm-pitch 44-pin (IDE) and 10-pin (VGA-out, COM2) connectors there. I went for the 50-connector cable, peeled off six pins' worth for my IDE, and used the excess 6 pins to make my VGA-out cables.

30 gig 3.5" 7200 RPM (about 1" thick!) Maxtor, at compUSA $200 on sale till May 6th (I think it was). Will fit inside the WebSurfer with WS-MOD-2 ! Will it withstand the car trunk treatment? We will see!

Another cool usb->audio adaptor, a little pricey but it seems to be exactly what some people have been looking for http://www.usbgear.com/usa/view_detail.cfm?id=53

A little secret note to you CompUSA shoppers...many of the advertised "deals" are not actually sales...they're just advertising the regular prices...unless it says something like "-$5 Instant Savings."

El barto, I've noticed that for several years and every time I see the "SALE" and the same price I get real disgusted....I feel like they think were stupid.

Anyway I got the display model i-opener today no hassel at all... paid cash, no tos, no contract....what's up with that? I've tried repeatedly to buy the display but they repeatedly said no...until now (maybe they got tired of me? ) Are they planning to discontinue the i-Opener?
I know you said you just "work there" but maybe you have updated info we don't know about?
