Anyone looking for another x86 OS to shoehorn into an appliance? This one looks pretty bare bones right now, but perhaps well suited to writing your own assembly apps, a real time controller, or? -Q

Menuet is a new, 32-bit OS, it fits to a single floppy (along with 10 or so more applications that come as standard with the OS). It features protection for the memory and code, it has a GUI running at 16,7 million colors, sound at 44.1 khz stereo, easy of use and easy low level API. And the most important and notable feature? The whole OS was written in 100%, pure 32-bit x86 assembly code.

Interesting...

Have you been able to download a copy? I have tried without any luck.

This OS is preety sweet I just checked it out, its got a lot of potential. Why not try it on the TuxScreen or perhaps maybe QNX will be best.

There are more OS's like these at http://www.freeos.com

OK. I got it now. The server must have been down when I tried earlier. Thanks.

This was recently discussed on Slashdot and on TechTV.

Sounds like it might be a good fit for IAppliances - maybe the IOpener. Any ideas on how to start?

Adam714,

The installer warns of boot sector "funniness" if run under certain versions of Windows. I booted from a DOS disk, then ran the m078pre3 executable which builds the Menuet operating system on your A: floppy. It booted just fine on my older Thinkpad 380ED.
