Yes it's a nice idea, although from the Beta I got for $5 direct from MSFT it's not as exciting... the footprint is still huge so it seems hard to get on a Sandisk etc, and seems little more than XP with much greater choice about what to include etc. So for instance the bug in XP that prevents it running on a WinChip reoccurs in XP embedded. Let's hope the release is better.

Did you signup to receive the beta for $5? Did it come on a disk or was it something you had to download? How big is the footprint? What features could you get on to 16megs, including of course usb network. I am wondering what would work on an IA-1.

Is the beta something that you can share, or did you have to sign or agree to something that you wouldn't hand it out?
I would like to give it a whirl on the IA-1.

Would it work well on a 32meg CF?

Windows XP embedded betas have been around for quite a while now.
The next big thing is the final product, launching in Las Vegas
November 29.

I ordered it on a CDROM directly from the Microsoft site

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/embedded/nt/xpepreview/default.asp

It came a few days later. Too big to send online.

The footprint, unless I am doing something wrong, is huge... well over a hundred MB... so cant get anything to squeeze into 16 or 32Mb flash.
