I don't understand why anyone would be stupid enough to actually buy a "kit" from someone else, especially considering:

1. He's still using the error-prone method of individually crossing each cable. Believe me, it is a LOT easier (and less time-consuming) to just buy another 44-pin header and crimp it right next to the existing header as discussed in several places on this board. These parts are NOT hard to find, and making the cable through this method took, um, a whoppping 30 seconds.

2. It's no secret where you can find the low-profile "Lasagna" fans. I am sure it would be cheaper AND faster to go directly to the manufacturer.

Save your money. Learn something in the process. Don't be stupid.

Answers to questions:

Yes you can change your order now, he has all orders on hold till he hears what you want, so if you have a order pending, please send e-mail saying what kit you want.

The price is the same for either kit (fan not included).

Until we can buy fans in quanity, you will have to order them from TennMax United.

http://www.tennmax.com

At this time we don't know if they can supply them with the proper power connector or not. If enough people demand it, maybe they will.

Make sure you mention that you are buying the fan for the I-Opener.

Watch for further updates here.

Oh, I forgot to say the fan just clips right on there, real easy install!

>> He's still using the error-prone method of individually crossing each cable.

The cables are professionally made by a cable company and tested on a quality high tech test fixture.

Did you expect anything less than a quality hack from I-Hacker central? :)

>> Believe me, it is a LOT easier (and less time-consuming) to just buy another 44-pin header and crimp it right next to the existing header as discussed in several places on this board..

The kit needs a cable that is very flexable and this mod is very tight.

We looked at the "two connectors" thing and the cable would either hit the metal bracket (possible short circuit) or would interfere with the RFI shield going back on. It would be real tight and we don't want any short circuits.

Plus you have to fold a regular cable over several times to make it work, since it's not very flexable. If you use anything over about 9mm for a drive, there really isn't the space (think about later upgrades you may want to do).

Yes, it's a secret! We posted the link on the main page and in this message.

If Codeman can get enough orders, he was thinking of offering the fan for the same price, but you would not have to pay shipping "twice" (one charge by the fan co.). When and IF he can do this, you will be told when you order or on the web site somewhere.

Hope that covers it so far.

Again, please post your questions in the other area, please don't flood Codeman's e-mail box with questions, thanks!

Your other questions will be answered in the "Whatever Else" area.

Please post about this there, thanks.

Let's see, I posted the first message on 3/29, and it's now 4/9. That makes it about 11 days the new kit has even existed.

If you ordered a original I-MOD1 kit, you need to write in and make sure to include a e-mail address that doesn't block us. We only had one person (may be you) that we keep writing to and they never answer back but to say "why arn't you writing me!". E-mail is not 100% perfect.

All I-MOD1 kit orders are filled. A bunch of I-MOD2 kits went out thrusday and a bunch more are going out on tuesday 4/11.

These kits are more or less "made to order", the demand goes up and down so it's hard to plan what to buy, timing is important, please order early. The quantities are not large and codeman doesn't have any banker finance friends.

If you are not receiving e-mail when you write back about problems with your order, then please try setting up a free e-mail account at yahoo or usa.net and see if that works.

Always follow up your pay pal order with a e-mail.

If this matter is cleared up, please post here so everyone knows you got taken care of.

Thanks.

New MessageRE:Why would anyone buy a kit ? (modified 0 times) roper
Some people may say 'who would buy a kit?" - I say that there are people out there who are working a lot harder than I regarding the I-Opener Hack Projects. Innovators should be rewarded by their acheivements. I'd rather pay some extra money to one of them than to NP. Remember, this hobby is expensive !
