I did a search on this BBS and the only similar item that turned up was a Gateway wireless touchpad using the same processor, so I imagine it's relatively unexplored. I personally think it's way cool. Have e-mailed the auctioneer trying to find out more about it, will post any info I find.

Hell, it's almost an anti-hack, in that it would do just about all one could expect of an i-appliance. Any thoughts?

Are you sure it's exactly the same? I thought the touchpad didn't have a base, for one. And for two, needed a mod to accept a HD. I admit my ignorance on recent developments, but I didn't know you could get one with a HD and Windows installed.

Codeman is correct, this is just a Gateway connected...it looks EXACTLY like my unit(yes they all have a base), and has the same technical specs, except for the addition of the 4 gig drive, which is a Mod.

This appears to be a one-off unit that has been hacked, and given a name. I was unable to find any links on the web with "Synapse Digital Media Player".

Doh. My mistake. And sincere apologies for what now appears to be a waste of everyone's time. Sorry guys, have been too preoccupied with my I-Opener project, didn't do enough research. Next time I'll do more before starting a new thread. Again, Doh.

LOL, thats kinda funny:

Synapse is currently the only device of this kind. Hurry, because this opportunity may not come around again for a long time! This player has been lightly used for about a month. It was purchased new less than a year ago for over $900. I don't know what it's worth now so the reserve is reasonable. There are no signs of use and it is in like-new condition. You should be familiar with Windows and computers for setup and configuration as I cannot provide support. Numerous online support resources are available. Unit is guaranteed non-DOA.

the only device of its kind..... ;)

Hello all,

As the seller here, thought I'd put the rumors to rest. The device is a Gateway Connected Touchpad that’s been modified. The work was done by a company called Junction Digital, although I don’t think they are in that business any more.

This is one my friend is selling. He’s from California, and knows someone who worked for them. Apparently they acquired about 50 GCT’s from Gateway through wholesale, modified them and sold them locally. I guess they couldn’t turn much of a profit, because they quit after 20 units and wholesaled the rest. This is not much different from every other modified GCT out there. My friend thought it would be best marketed as an audio component, since calling it a GCT would put it in competition with the other bare-bones units out there.

I admit the Buy It Now price is ambitious ;) but I'm not calling the shots here. You never know though...when people are willing to pay $1000 for a color touchscreen remote for their stereo, why not this? The reserve is around what it would cost in parts and labor to purchase and modify a GCT to the unit’s specs.

It's a small world, I never thought it would show up on these boards. I have owned a Virgin Webplayer and a GCT which I still have (and like). Keep up the good detective work.

mwdelta, if you do know this person... "It was purchased new less than a year ago for over $900".

Expect anyone to believe that?
