Not really worthy of posting here but,
I was at C-USA yesterday and noticed a new brand of LCD flat panel display. "Kogi" 14.1" TFT, uses 12VDC adapter, Dark grey backside and front buttons are grey. The front plastic bezel could be removed and painted grey to match.

I'm still looking around for a cheap small TFT LCD monitor to use as a Car computer display, 12" would be ideal...

Has some interesting prospects...

No white or creme color please....yuk!

Maybe the following will help.

If the video has the option for Composit out { usualy a RCA Jack or even a SVideo could be combined } could look at composit monitors. Some where in the posting on this WebBBS some one had a link to a cheep composit input TFT 5" monitor but unknow on quality. Or look at the Sony LCD monitor for the PSOne. Its more in price but has composit in, power is 12v I think and from the reviews not bad on display. Assume 640x480 for the screen if you go for this. Wish they still made either the Motorola 6847 or TI TMS9918A. Easy to hook up and pop out composit rather well.

The other problem is there are temp ranges for LCD screens. Car enviroment are pritty severe. With temp that can get as high as 160 and very cold. This can destroy a lot of room grade LCD. Had some simple ones that had only out for a while in a steel shed and the whold batch went directly to the trash when I pulled them out.

Be carefull on blank "cheep" pannels. Some were special custom for a product and are hard to impossible to interface. Or if there is an interface can run more than the screen.

Tiger had a farely cheep 14.1" one but are out of stock. Problem with the CompUsless was their selling price. Way too high for a 14.1.

And last some states have laws that cover what can be seen on a video display by a driver.

Good luck on the project!

Thanks for the feedback.
The State police and "other" police agencies use Motorola MDT terminals here. It interfaces with the vehicle 2way radio and a laptop/notebook mounted on the center console facing the driver. It does get rather hot here and I've wondered about damage to the LCD...Hmm I wonder if Leo is "exempt" from any driver facing display's?

I've watched a cruiser pull into a Motel 6 at night/early morning and run every license plate in the parking lot. They run the parked vehicles license # thru there database using the notebook. They seem to love to "go Fish" these parking lots when bored looking for wanted folks or something else of interest.

I've seen the playstation <The square one is better> display but it's rather small for me old eyes.
I've also thought about replacing the front overhead center console with on of those custom flip down tft video display consoles...

Even thought about using a gutted i-Opener and run a long "spliced" shielded interface cable between the floor mounted i-Opener mobo and gooseneck mounted i-Opener case with it's Dual scan LCD.

Wonder what the absolute max length of the LCD interface cable is.

I wish for spellcheck for me...

Could check the aftermarket in-car video systems. Some have roof mounted displays. Actualy I would not run the digital too far. Leads can either radiate or pick up noise leading to a lously looking display. Could shield but that gets very expensive and tough to rout.

A lot of those system cost a arm and a leg due to the radio link, computer and the display rated for heavy-duty services. You can get some farelly cheep 256 x 128 display mono on/off pix ones that can be interface via serial or parallel. Depends on what you want to display. The composit is farely cheep easy to rout power/signal to it by normal means.

That is the link and there was another with some one that put a system in his car.
