Cool! That with Maindrake-Linux would be a cool system! :)

Wonder if at their stores also.

Remindes me of a story:
Had a freind who was a store manager at Radio Shack in the last 1970. Sold a orginal TRS80 to a couple that like what you coulds do with it like manage cooking recipies, letters etc. { No giggles! ;) } The next day when he open up the store he saw the couple wating for him with the TRS80. He open the store and ask them to come in. He ask what was wrong? They said it was easy to setup and start up but they try all night to find where were all the recepies!

Wonder how many system will be return due to it not booting. ;)

Best Buy has had an Emachines 1.0 GHz machine available for the past few weeks. It comes with Monitor and Printer for $399. So check out the flyers carefully before you buy.

If you want someting a bit smaller and simpler. Frys has the Asus Terminator barebones for around 180. Takes a AMD CPU. Just ad a CPU+fan, HD and memory and have fun. A very small package! I cant tell if its a 150 or 180w PS but boy is it tiny. Did I mention built in sound, video, and net?

The sales practice of a big firm selling a box with no operating system is more notable then the price. I had heard that a certain big software seller required every box be sold with an existing operating system, or else they would freeze the store out.

You can find the $399 machines at Circuit City now. It is eMachines
Celeron 1.1GHz, 128MBytes, 20G, 48X CDROM, V92 modem, Windows (Oops),
17 inch monitor, Lexmark Z23 printer, and Compuserv 12 months free access.
(it is the new design. The ones from Best Buy was the old design.)
It is after $325 mail in rebate. So if you live in California, you will
pay a lot (about $25 more) of sales tax just for the rebate. So you
might think that it is not cheap after all. :) They say that you can
have 12 month interest free payment option available as well. Do you
think you can haggle the price from $399 ?
