Palm Pilot software that can read/clear Ford electronic computer codes

Has any one seen this?? http://www.diagtek.com/AutoDiag.htm

There is a company that is selling Palm Pilot software that can read and clear computer codes on the electronic systems on Ford vehicles. It uses the serial docking adapter with their special adapter for the Ford vehicle. I would almost pay the $249 to get my hands on one to figure it out.

I wonder if the car adapter has any special electonics or if it's just a line adapter for a serial rs232 for the interface into the vehicle compter system. This would be a cool hack!!

FYI - I have been laying low lately, the newest addtion to the family has been keeping me occupied (a 1965 Mustang coupe, not to mention the 2001 little Bigdog who showed up in December and is just about ready to start crawling!)

BigDog: The adapter is probably a serial to SAE J1850 adapter. This will plug into the diagnostics connector under the dash (or wherever Ford puts their connectors). I'm familiar with GM's flavor of J1850. I've heard that similar Palm adapter devices exist for GM vehicles.

A web search for "SAE J1850" should result in all sorts of good info.

Let me know if you have any specific questions about this stuff and we can talk about it via email.

Electronics run on smoke, if you let the smoke out they won't work

http://www.obd-2.com/ has the cheapest Onboard Diagnostics (OBD) software/interfaces that I've seen, but I believe it is only for Windows flavors - great for that onboard touchpad. Like most, they have hardware to support all new cars (1996 and newer). I have no experience with these.

Anyone seen something like this for DC vehicles, like the Durango?

If it's a '96 or newer then it has a ODB-II diag port (this is mandated by the government which states that all cars sold in the US since 1996 must have a common physical diag port) the actual protocol would be an issue, I am not sure if is uses a propitary protocol or ISO; from http://www.obd-2.com/ it would appear that Chrysler uses the ISO standard. I have a Ford which has the 16 pin standard port but uses something called a PVM protocol which requires a special converter other than the standard.

This would be a cool use for you i-Opener or other small LCD IA computer to have a on board monitoring system for it (Kinda geek'ish however..)

I love when people cross into the car zone! :)

BigDog- you might want to check out http://www.autotap.com/autotap.html. Autotap's a pretty damn good ODB-II scanner, and they have both palm and PC platforms (if you were to look in a Haynes or Chiltons manual, you'd see they recommend them).
Gultig, it supports DC vehicles too.

With the right software, you can do some pretty cool things with the ECU...

I'm a mustang man myself, I'm going to swap out the DD deck that's stock with the 2002's and replace it with an LCD/minicomputer to do mp3's, GPS, and show the data from the diagnostic port. Have fun with that 1965- I just bought a
69 myself!

There is a better website then that odb-2.com site..I'll post it once I dig it up again.
