I bought one to replace an old Pentium 100. Comes with Thiz Linux pre-installed, a Thiz Linux CD, and a CD with all the drivers you need. It also comes with a booklet telling you how to install Microsoft OSs (95, 98, NT, XP). Their procedure did not work - I had to manually wipe out the Linux boot sector before running fdisk.

The 20MB Hard disk is the low end of the spectrum. ATA66 and certainly not 7200RPM although I have not measured it.

The modem is a software modem (WinModem). I thought Linux did not support these, so that may be a problem if you want to run Linux, but I was not interested in experimenting with it and just loaded Win98.

I've been really interested in one of those for a while...I have to keep telling myself I DO NOT NEED ANOTHER COMPUTER! In the ad they have in the friday paper here (Oregon) they had a 1.7ghz celeron CPU and mobo for $109.

typicaly these cheap systems that Fry's sells are total crap. Cheap motherboard in a cheap case with other sub-standard parts. I've returned so many of them that I've stopped buying them.

I've had MUCH better luck with the refurb systems at computergeeks.com, and they're usally less expensive too.

What do you expect for $299? This isnt for serious computer users or your main computer...its for people that don't know the difference between windows and the linux it comes with...

Yeah not too bad of a deal
but,

Saturday I picked up a brand new Aopen Brand "All in one" Micro ATX Mobo for $39 at a local OEM. Supports up to 1.2Ghz Celeron/P-III T. Has on board 10/100, sound, Video, modem.

If one shops around here locally,

1.1Ghz Celeron $85
256MB ram $49
IBM 61GB ATA/100 7200RPM $89
Mid tower case/PS $45
52X Asus CD rom drive $19
______
$287

One ends up with LOTS more hardrive space (And faster, 7200rpm) more ram, plus the joy of building it yourself!

Now if I look in my recycled parts....

256MB ram $00
IBM 40GB ATA/100 7200RPM $00
Mid tower case/PS $00
50XCDrom drive $00
1.1 GHZ celeron CPU. $85

______
$85 = Total cost.
