Here is a cool IDE Flash Drive from pretec...

From their Web site...

The Flash Drive comes in capacity of 8MB, 16MB, 32MB, 64MB, 96MB, 128MB unformatted in three different shapes to accommodate your needs:

This is just perfect for using the T200 in automotive applications, but I suspect that it's pricey. I've seen similar devices at the Embedded Systems Conference, and they typically start at over $100 and climb upwards in price, depending on capacity.

What we really need for the T200 is a small mini-IDE->CF socket on a daughter card that can be mounted as a replacement for the 1.8" hard drive.

Here are some my links for CF > IDE adapters:

located in San Jose Ca
http://www.siliconkit.com/

located in Ontario Canada
http://www.peeweelinux.com/#products located in Ontario Canada

located in Australia but cheap @ $17.00

Wireless

Believe it or not, you can buy (Disk on Modules) DOMs from Dell (of all places).

LinuxGuru, you're right about the DOMs. The least expensive useable 128mb is about $100.00. A $25 CF > IDE adapter and a 128mb CF for $50 looks like a better more Flexible (portable) solution if you can get the configuration to boot, and not exhaust its usable life to quickly.

Hope this helps

I picked up one of these to boot LRP from a CF card. Cheap, works great, and 3.5" size.

Here is a nice review of the use of CompactFlash as a boot device. The review includes benchmarks as well. I'm a little disappointed with the Flash performance. I was under the misconception that solid state memory would be faster, not slower, then a hard drive. Years ago we would use RAM disks to increase IO performance.

With an inexpensive CF adapter like the one Sobacr found, a noiseless PC/internet appliance based on the ITX mb looks doable.

If only there was an inexpensive LCD monitor!
